I think there should also be a mandatory helmet law. If everyone was required to wear a helmet in a car it would save thousands of live a year and anyone not wearing one would be easy to spot by the police. Seriously I am all for wearing seat belts but it should not be up to the government if you are an adult.

ok, i like the fact that it should be mandatory. but here’s the problem, and i think that down the line, it will be challenged.

reason: who saw you wearing or not wearing the seatbelt? the officer! so is it your word vs his? and are to say that the officer is correct 100% of the time? is this not like the hov violation? is there physical proof? what if you were stopped and you had to undo your seatbelt to get into your glove compartment for the registration and insurance card? oops, you are wearing it! this is where it’s going to get interesting.

now if you think about it, it’s going to be like the camera red light. the veh was seeing going through the light but not who the driver is? so who’s the real culprit?

many of you probably don’t realize, that when you are pulled for a speeding ticket, that you can ask to see the gun. if not, they can’t write the ticket. reason: the gun is accusing you of the violation not the officer. the officer is using this tool to find violators. now, if you don’t ask, then he’s not required to show and you’ll be at-fault.

there are so many times, that the court takes 100% word of the officer. but it’s like putting that officer in the middle of a basketball court. or like making him referee in the NFL? how many different views and yet, they all could be right or wrong?

i think that they should be using this against any medical bills that might be associated w/insurance payout. the insurance company should not have to payout more, just because you could have helped yourself with wearing a seatbelt or helmet!

in reality? what about the troopers that don’t wear seatbelts, speed, or other moving violations? are they getting tickets for violating the law they are supposed to uphold? because if they are allowed to violate – so can we!

Hate to tell you, but the police don’t have to show you their gun to write you a ticket. You can ask to see all you want, and they may or may not, but that won’t get you out of a ticket. On the topic though, I think adults should be able to make up their own minds…but on the other hand, people who don’t wear the seatbelts tie up ambulances and rescue people with their blood and guts all over the highway and in the trees…

Anytime the various governmental entities, Federal or State, usurp another element of personal discretion and become the enforcer in a situation where the victim and the perpetuator are one and the same and the remedy is money, the enforcement officers are nothing more than armed tax collectors.
