Florida and Michigan have something in common. We both have governors who play politics with insurnace carriers ability to write business in our states. She must be running for higher office soon, as our Governor in Florida Charlie Crist is running for US Senate this year. Good luck Michigan!

This is the same kind of nonsense that ran Nationwide off in the 1970’s. This time I can see a lot of carriers taking off. It’s not worth it in a state that has a payment default rate in the low 20% range.

Why Mr. Solvent, are you insane? We can lower rates significantly here in Michigan without lowering any costs. The government can do anything. They are only here to help us of course.

Melvin and Jenny seem to think we can lower rates without reducing costs.

So, we have a governor who wants to drive out one of the only profitable industries remaining in the state. To that end, she’s appointed an insurance consumer advocate who
A: knows nothing about the business
B: Isn’t interested in learning anything about the business other than urban leftist talking points.
C: lies about the premium he pays on his own policy.
D: Has no grasp of basic economics
    E: All of the above.

Thank goodness Governor Jennifer “Invasive Species” Granholm is term-limited out next year.

It is easy to cut insurance costs in Michigan and the gov or nobody else seems to want to talk about it. End LIFETIME MEDICAL BENEFITS!!!!

Get rid of PIP all together and that would be a good start to lower rates.

Not only Nationwide, but USF&G and Michigan Mutual which were very big players in the state.

Obamacare will take care of the PIP, we won’t need it on the auto.

Obamacare won’t affect PIP at all — Medicare/Medicaid already don’t coordinate with PIP coverage in Michigan, leaving the Auto insurer to pay the whole bill. Obamacare won’t be any different.

Well if MI changes the medical pay structure and those that opt out, you can
    bet Obamacare will pay! Medicare/Medicaid
don’t pay now, because the auto provides it. If MI insureds are given the option to opt out, who pays then?

Are you kidding me? The large Auto Ins are located in Illinois & other states and do business here. They ARE making HUGE profits by delaying and denying legitimate PIP injury claims especially for serious brain and spinal cord injuries. Go to Wayne Cty Circuit court any Fri & see/hear the hearings/motions for the major auto ins. You will be shocked. Some of those Bills favor the auto ins cos such as removing medical codes and limiting medical payments. How do I know? I am perm disabled and fighting the auto ins co to reimburse me my co-pays. I am not suing anyone, I just want reimbursement. Auto Ins claim Reps use deceptive ways to avoid paying while I am soon to lose my home due to paying medical expense & co-pays for over 4 yrs. BTW, I’m in suburbs & my premiums are higher than a comp friend who lives in Detroit so we are not hearing the true story. Auto ins cos have given politicians huge campaign contributions.
