Flood Insurance Getting Cheaper in Lincoln, Nebraska

City officials in Lincoln, Neb., say an upgrade in Lincoln’s rating will save property owners more money on their flood insurance.

A news release from the office of Mayor Chris Beutler says the city rating went from class 7 up to class 6 in the federal Community Rating System. Beutler says the improvement came because of the city’s work with federal officials on crediting flood protection provided by the Salt Creek levee.

The city says the higher rating will help property owners save an average of 20 percent, or $160 a year, on flood insurance, versus 15 percent, or $120, under the old rating.
