I was discussing this with a friend yesterday. While this is certainly a tragedy and that texting contributed to the crash, there is some puzzle.

Why were the school buses involved in this crash? Did the texting involve them or were the 2 bus drivers either following too close or too fast? Should they not have been able to stop after the crash occurred in front of them? The first bus driver should have been aware enough or been able to see the situation developing. I know when I drive I don’t just watch the car in front of me, but take in as much of the environement as possible. That’s also the way I was reminded to drive in classes after a speeding ticket (oops, bad Dave).

Again, a horrible situation, but the distracted 19-year old did not involve the school buses. The school bus drivers did. One of my pet peeves is lack of accountability or misplaced responsibility to change the lesson to be learned.

To close I say, DO NOT TEXT WHILE DRIVING! Thanks.

I agree with Dave’s comment above. I am totally against texting an driving, BUT…seems to me the kid texting did NOT cause #1 or #2 bus driver to do anything.

It is painfully obvious that #1 bus driver was tailgating the texter, and #2 bus driver was tailgating #1.

I believe the texter was guilty of running into the back of the semi (not fatal) (semi driver using gears to slow-downshift, no brake lights to warn texter or any other driver…).

Both bus drivers were tailgating, and not paying attention. The 2 bus drivers caused the wreck and deaths, not the texter. With the vantage point the bus drivers had, the fact they ran full on into the kids truck, forcing it upon the back of the semi and then the 2nd bus launched the 1st bus over the top.

It is a miracle there were not dozens of fatalities.

Blame the texter for running into the back of the semi…but don’t place the blame on him to cover up the fact that 2 “professional” drivers were not paying attention.

    This is bologna.

Also, get the BLACK BOX from the semi. I’d sure like to know if the semi driver was watching (exterior mirrors) the texter, and intentionally slowed down using gears (no brake lights) to teach texter a lesson (scare him), and it backfired when the school bus drivers who weren’t paying attention and tailgating slammed into texter.

More than meets the eye here, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. I think we have at least 2 “professional” drivers who are anything but professional, and a government wishing to blame a texter for everything. Just because texter was texting, that doesn’t justify the 2 bus drivers from not paying attention, and neither was…
