I would bet there are a lot of people who would love to know where these jobs are. Is there an agricultural jobs board somewhere? Getting this information out to people who are looking would be a better start, in my opinion.

The other concern is, is this more of an example of employers looking for a labor force they can take advantage of?

Instead of tyring to circumvent the Federal immigration laws, which according to some cannot be polices by state or local authorites, why not come up with a plan to assist your businesses.

Why not put your funding into sponsoring work-visa application assistance, etc. and work with the feds on expediting local gov’t assisted applicants who qualify for aid. (i.e., criminal/background checks, verifying residency, etc.)

That’s total BS, Ins Guy. Why don’t these farmers offer these jobs to AMERICAN workers? I am sure that there are thousands of AMERICAN men and women who are unemployed that would jump at this opportunity to work, even if it did mean a cut in pay for them. I say it’s time to take care of our own citizens and let the illegals fend for themselves–preferrably in their own country.

You have got to be kidding!!!
Let’s make it legal for certain members of our society to legally take advantage of other members and send the message its ok to break the laws of our country.
Put the unemployed people to work and get them off the tax rolls. I am tired of supporting people who dont want to work, and people who enter our country (and stay here)illegally. It is hard enough to support my own familiy.

I agree with most of the comments so far. What this Ag Secretary wants, on behalf of the farmers, is cheap labor. If the wage scale was set according the principles of “free market”, the farmers (i.e. business owners) would have to increase wages to attract the workers they need. Instead, they essentially wish for the Feds to make exceptions so that we, taxpayers, once again foot the bill by indirectly subsidizing the importation of cheap help. SECURE THE BORDERS NOW!

OPINION-Here we go again, Big AG wants to keep SLAVE LABOR alive in Kansas! Hey AG, how about advertising locally for help? Or better yet, how about using more machines to do the work? Enough is enough, these people are here Illegally and the AG folks want to make sure they stay so they can get CHEAP LABOR!
OMG, this has to be a alternate universe…

Since when does some lowly state ag secretary have the power to override long standing federal law? These slave-driving scumbags need to be put out of business, not be coddled by some corrupt state goons. Sheesh!

Go ahead & hire them. BUT when something goes wrong – fire, theft, food poisoning, etc. DON’T come crying to someone else to foot the bill. Use all that money they saved on wages, insurance, etc.

We already have numerous guest worker programs, but I guess that’s not enough for farmers. How about mechanizing? How about advertising for students to help? They always need money. How about the homeless and the many unskilled who’ve lost jobs to illegals? Surely, we don’t need to import any more. We wind up footing their bills, while they send their money home. Something’s very wrong with that picture.

I wish that I had someone who would take care of me and my kids’ health care, because let me tell you I am not really making it myself, I was born and raised here. So were my great, great, great, great, great, great grandparents, and I still am paying for people who were not and I cannot afford it.

I feel bad for those who are seeking something better, but not in this manor. News flash, USA is having pretty bad issues ourselves.

They do offer the jobs to American workers. Go work for them if you need a job. They’ll hire you. And it will probably be just like Alabama. They brought Americans in and the jobs were too difficult. They couldn’t do it.
