I have an Idea, just make it illegal. Problem solved. Of course you could not financially benefit from the product if you made it illegal. Guarantee that I could not get the FDA to approve this poison in 2013 so why are company’s selling the product, manufacturing the product and benefiting from the product? I’ll tell you why, because it is a cash tax cow!

I have a great idea!! Let’s make it more expensive for fat people, people that drink liquor and other people that have so called bad habits that other people don’t like. PLEASE!! People make their own decisions insofar as what they want to do. Isn’t this called FREEDOM and doesn’t this make us human beings? I don’t like people that make decisions they think are good for me!! All of these jerks can KMA!!!!

I think you missed the class on social interdependence in a democratic society and clearly don’t understand insurance. At its heart insurance is a shared cost of potential exposures and I agree if you knowingly increase your potential / exposure for healthcare via smoking you should be happy to also accept the additional cost??

I assume you accept the higher cost of fuel consumption if you drive a larger truck that consumes more fuel? Or the cost of your meal goes up when you order a second bucket of chicken as there is no such thing as a free lunch. And isn’t that actually defending your freedoms!! Rather than saying due to you personal choice to undertake a habit which is clearly connected to an expensive and horrible slow death exposure due to smoking or the heart disease or diabetes from being fat generally, you simply have to prepay for those expected additional costs as they are directly related to your choices??
Be happy they aren’t excluding you they are merely applying a choice tax? Now that’s freedom of choice, rather than the desire you expressed to impose your stupid choice expenses onto others that don’t participate but would see an increase as a result of actions they can’t prevent?? That is the same outlook of someone cheating on welfare and rationalizing that they are only taking from the govt and disassociating from the reality that it hurts all taxes payers collectively via higher taxes. I hope they are sending a part of the extra cost to schools in your area to educate children that freedom is never free.. ask any Marine.

While you are entitled to your opinion, so am I and if BS were snow, you’d be a blizzard!! Better check to see the billions of dollars smokers have to pay in taxes because they smoke and where or where does this money go?? They already pay for this legal act and this money should go strictly to the smokers with health problems caused by smoking. Why not tax alcohol at the same rate and even higher than tobacco? How many innocent people die because of drunk drivers each year and because of alcoholism. Last time I checked it was legal to drive while under the influence of a Newport cig. Like Dennis Miller says, we have to find a way to keep smokers alive longer, so they can continue paying the extremely high cig taxes, which probably benefit you in some way!!

I am with the idea that each unhealthy act we participate in should cost us.

Why should those who are smoking or other habits that we know are going to cost more as the “problem” hurts them, not pay more for health care!
