“Among his goals: A city-run auto insurer to bring down rates that he says drive people out.”

Oh yeah, they’ve done everything else so well, what could go wrong with going into the automobile insurance business. Why not go for the brass ring and include personal property, liability, health, life and annuity.

Evidently the city is dying because of bad auto insurance. Good luck Detroit.

As a business man, he should realize that the reason the rates are high is that the claims are high. Michigan also has the PIP coverage that is breaking the backs of some auto insurers. On paper, his concepts may look good, but being practical the “insurance” company that he creates should make other insurance companies nervous in regards to the guaranty fund. Clean up the city, get services back in place — about #100 on the list is to look at auto insurance.

He wants to attract suburban residents back into the city. High automobile cost is an issue to this goal.
