“Average” people sit on juries – they are like politicians, they are not spending their money so being practical doesn’t apply. Punitive damages were supposed to be to financially punish the wrongdoer. Today in most cases it is covered by insurance so we make new multi-millionaires. Then the jurors can go home and complain about rising insurance costs.
