South Dakota Robocall Scam Falsely Using Houston Insurance Firm’s ID

An automated phone message reaching South Dakota residents has been prompting MasterCard customers to enter their card numbers in the dial pad.

The South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley warns consumers that this robocall is a scam.

The caller ID number tied to the calls belongs to an insurance business in Houston, Texas. The owner of that business has been inundated with calls from South Dakota consumers and is not associated with the caller, according to the AG’s office.

Consumers are advised to hang up on the call without pressing any numbers on their phone.

Authorities urge those with questions and those who believe they have been victims of the scam to contact the South Dakota Consumer Protection Division 1-800-300-1986. People should contact their financial institutions if they’ve given out their personal information to suspicious rob callers.
