Just a little confused on this one. I assume that the girls were not invited guest to the school for the sledding adventure and most likely were trespassing on the premises. If this is a correct assumption how can the school be liable for the actions of these girls?

As a nation we cannot afford to continue to compensate people for their own negligent actions. This settlement is as insane as paying an injured party who decides to jump off a roof as there is no sign warning of the danger, when will it ever end?

Unscrupulous lawyers will sue for anything. They do like shaking the tree and see what falls out. I kind of doubt this was a school sponsored event. Trespassing is most likely.

Attractive Nuisance????? Snow?…a hill? a sled??? A FENCE????? ( man made) Maybe NOT,…but an interesting concept in my opinion…not trespassers…it was a school…probably one they went to…but…when the snow flies….careful!

      Diane,
They may have been students but at the time of the incident was school in session, one would hope not? Not certain about the district in question but due to these kinds of suits many public areas are being closed to off hours access, if that is the case than the children in question would be trespassing. Sure wish IJ would do a little more detailed reporting sometimes.

Sledding used to be just fun as a kid, now numerous cities are banning sledding at public areas due to just this scenario. However it sounds like a pretty large settlement also so they will see more of these claims. The sharks are tasting blood.
