Indiana House Explosion Leaves 3 Dead, 39 Homes Damaged

An explosion at an Evansville, Indiana house killed three people and damaged 39 houses, officials said Wednesday afternoon.

Evansville Fire Department Chief Mike Connelly said two of the people killed were in the house of the explosion, while the third victim was in a neighboring house. Connelly said the affected area of the blast was approximately 1,000 feet.

Connelly said 39 houses suffered severe to minor damage.

The explosion occurred just before 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Willemette Village/Wesselman Park neighborhoods, about two miles north of the University of Evansville.

Security camera video shared with local news outlet WRTV Indianapolis shows the moment of the explosion.

Connelly said an arson investigation is underway. A structural collapse team was on site to stabilize structures fear of collapse.
