Hartford School of Insurance Trains Personal Lines

August 7, 2000

Responding to a shortage of seasoned personal lines producers in insurance agencies, The Hartford School of Insurance is offering a development program for new agency personal lines producers. The first class starts in late September.

The program, which consists of three weeks of structured self-study followed by two intense weeks of classroom training at The Hartford’s Education Center in Hartford, is designed to shorten the producer learning curve and minimize the training demands on an agency. It helps the new producer become a competent, confident personal lines salesperson that much quicker.

“In this tight labor market, the prospect of top-notch training is a strong lure for good job candidates,” said Richard Guertin, president, agency personal lines at The Hartford. “This development program allows agency principals to deliver on that promise, while reaping the added reward of shortening the time in which the producer is earning his or her keep. More than half the agents surveyed by The Hartford said this kind of training was needed.”

The course provides participants with an in-depth understanding of the personal insurance markets, coverages, underwriting, pricing and marketing practices. It also teaches sales techniques and methods the new producer can use to attract new prospects and retain clients while building a profitable personal lines book.

Throughout the program, students use ISO forms and manuals in solving the problems presented so they are highly productive upon their return to their agency. Self-study for the first class starts Sept. 25, followed by classroom study Oct. 16-27. The second class begins with self-study on Oct. 16. Tuition is $2,500 including all materials.
