Allstate Named ‘Top 10’ Company for Working Mothers

September 5, 2000

Working Mother selected this year’s 100 Best Companies based on six criteria: child care, leave for new parents, flexible work arrangements, work/life benefits such as elder care and adoption assistance, and advancement opportunities for women. Editors looked at a range of supportive company offerings, including health insurance premiums, availability of time off to care for sick kids, mentoring programs and extras such as on-site gyms and other conveniences.

Other companies chosen by Working Mother include Fannie Mae, which offers paid time off for volunteer work, and the Benjamin Group/BSMG, which pays its employees to surf. The list is considered a badge of honor for corporations, and appears in the magazine’s October issue. It will also be available online. Rounding out the Top 10 with Allstate were: Bank of America Corp., Eli Lilly and Co., Fannie Mae, IBM Corp., Lincoln Financial Group, Life Technologies Inc., Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc., Novant Health Inc. and Prudential Financial Services.
