NAII to Host All-Industry Forum on Mold Issues Sept. 19

August 30, 2001

The National Association of Independent Insurers (NAII) has invited a broad spectrum of the property and casualty insurance industry and representatives from other industries affected by the increasing number of mold-related claims to a forum on mold issues in Chicago next month.

The “Forum on Mold Issues” will be held Sept. 19, 2001 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Chicago-O’Hare, 5440 N. River Road, Rosemont, Ill. The meeting’s purpose is to discuss mold-related public policy issues and to consider legislative, regulatory and market-based solutions to the situation.

In addition to discussing legislative and regulatory issues, participants will hear a variety of perspectives on the mold issue from groups such as the Institute for Environmental Assessment, National Association of Home Builders, and the Defense Research Institute. The Insurance Information Institute and the Insurance Services Office will also report on mold studies and on-going research. NAII has invited its member companies, major insurers unaffiliated to a trade association and representatives from the other national insurance trade associations to the forum.

In June, NAII put together an interdisciplinary task force on mold to develop policies and strategies that address the variety of issues arising from these claims.
