IMMA Board Votes to Cancel 2001 Annual Conference

September 25, 2001

During an emergency conference call today, the Board of Directors of the International Mass Marketing Association (IMMA) voted to cancel IMMA’s 2001 Annual Conference scheduled for Oct. 21-24 at the Scottsdale Hilton Resort & Villas in Scottsdale, Ariz.

In a statement to members and conference attendees, IMMA President Lowell Engelhard, with Providence Insurance Agency Inc., Charlotte, N.C. said: “The board voted unanimously to cancel the conference in light of the unsettled state of travel, losses suffered by our member companies, and for the general welfare of all concerned.”

Engelhard said he had expected “another successful conference. I regret our having to take this action and I feel that we will overcome this adversity and become even stronger in the year ahead. We apologize for the inconvenience some of our attendees are faced with due to this decision.”

With a theme of “Evolving in the Marketplace,” conference participants were to examine trends in worksite and affinity marketing; customer relationship management (CRM); agency success stories; customized benefit communications; e-commerce; and a view of how top-notch insurance companies are performing so well.

Based in West Simsbury, Conn., the IMMA is an organization of property/casualty insurance sponsored-marketing professionals with a mission to develop more effective and profitable business relationships between agents and carriers; and to foster professional and ethical standards in the marketing, sales and service of mass-marketed products.
