March 12, 2002

The National Association of Independent Insurers (NAII) announced the promotion of Samuel Sorich to senior vice president, secretary and general counsel and Robert Zeman to senior vice president as part of the reorganization of its Legal and Legislative Divisions.

Effective April 1, 2002, the Legal/Legislative Division will divide into the Legal Division and State Governmental Affairs Division.

Zeman will lead the State Government Affairs Division, which will focus on state legislative and regulatory issues. This division will be comprised of NAII’s Northwest, Southeast, Southwest and Western regional offices and the state government lobbying staff located in the Des Plaines office.

Sorich will be responsible for monitoring the activities of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and lead the Legal Division, which consists of the financial and tax department, the legislative data base department, litigation, amicus briefing, workers compensation, formerly in the IRS Division, and official corporate law functions.

“The promotions of Sam Sorich and Bob Zeman reflect the outstanding service they have provided to the association. They are valued members of our senior management and in their new roles they will help NAII provide continued leadership in the insurance industry,” Jack Ramirez, president of NAII, commented. “The reorganization of our legal and legislative area will sharpen our focus and position NAII to move ahead to provide the highest quality, timely information for our member companies and influence in legislative and regulatory bodies.”
