ISO Service Offers New Program for Loss Control, Safety Professionals

March 18, 2002

Insurance Services Office, Inc.’s (ISO) Engineering and Safety Service (E&STM) unit is offering a new, self-directed ‘distance learning’ program for loss control and safety professionals to study and earn continuing education credits at their own pace and convenience.

The new E&S self-study program, called Technical Achievement Program (TAP), is designed for loss control consultants to keep abreast of the latest technical information by learning through the Internet from anywhere—home, office, or on the road—and taking tests on-line while expanding their knowledge of insurance loss control topics.

The TAP program is linked to loss control information published by E&S on its Web site. Candidates take a self-paced written examination on the contents of select E&S technical reports and receive 0.5 Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits for passing each test. E&S will offer four tests a year, allowing loss control and safety professionals to earn up to 2 CEU credits each year.

Previous TAP examinations will stay on-line for the rest of the calendar year, so participants may go back and complete any examinations they might have missed.

“ISO’s Technical Achievement Program brings to insurers the convenience and cost savings that distance learning provides to their loss control professionals. With a computer and access to the Internet, loss control consultants can advance their professional knowledge at their own pace from anywhere, with minimal disruptions to their work flow,” William F. Hauswirth, senior vice president of ISO’s Engineering and Safety Service unit, said.

TAP will offer the first on-line examination in mid-April. Only E&S subscribers are eligible to participate in TAP. There is a $25 fee for each examination.
