NAMIC Expands State Advocacy Resources

October 14, 2002

Responding to the reported frustrations of member companies
burdened by the cost of state insurance regulation, the National
Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has named Marsha Harrison, formerly vice president of Legal Affairs at Monroe Guaranty, to the newly-created position of Regulatory Manager.

“Marsha Harrison’s reputation as a technical regulatory expert is well-established,” Roger Schmelzer, NAMIC’s vice president-Regulatory Affairs, said. “Her appointment accomplishes our goal of adding a
professional with experience in technical property/casualty compliance who can help our members more smoothly and less expensively navigate state regulatory requirements. This new position is being added as part of the association’s ongoing mission to “have a positive impact on our member-companies’ bottom line.”

Harrison will serve as the principal resource to member company executives and compliance personnel seeking assistance on compliance-related issues in the states. She will work with a committee of multi-state member companies to help identify and resolve specific state issues.

Harrison comes to NAMIC after 11 years with Monroe Guaranty where she also served as Secretary to the Board.

Her previous experience includes serving as Corporate Counsel at Indiana Farm Bureau, Chief Counsel at the Indiana Department of Insurance and Deputy Attorney General in Indiana. Harrison was also a member of the Indiana Guaranty Association Board and the Indiana Insurance Institute Legislative Steering Committee.
