InVEST, a business-education partnership training high school and community college students in insurance agency and company operations and preparing them for careers in the industry, announced its own JaneMarie “Jaimee” Borger, who serves as InVEST’s director of curriculum and program development, as one of 12 nationwide recipients of SAFECO’s coveted Rudy Award.
The Rudy Award is presented to individuals who have put forth leadership, dedication and a results-driven attitude for non-profit organizations. Borger was nominated by Sherri Stein, Director of Agent Training & Development at SAFECO, for her involvement in fostering the growth and development of InVEST programs nationwide. A commissioned piece of glass along with a $5,000 check to be used to enhance and improve InVEST will be presented to Borger at the InVEST Board of Directors meeting this March.
“Jaimee is the chief contact person for more than 235 teachers who teach InVEST daily – returning phone calls, emails and written correspondence,” Stein said. Among her many other contributions to the program, Borger helped revise the teacher’s manual and student textbook to make the program more easily implemented in schools enhancing the InVEST experience for teachers, students and industry volunteers.
InVEST Chairman Jim Armitage noted, “The Rudy Award is well-deserved recognition for someone who has made such an outstanding personal contribution to InVEST. Jaimee is one of the key reasons the program has been increasingly more successful year after year. She is enthusiastic and has been working hard to develop the program across the country. Fourteen new InVEST classes in nine different states opened this past fall, and it’s the first time in the history of InVEST that this many new classrooms commenced in one semester, and the program started another 12 new programs this January.”
Borger is credited with focusing additional time and attention to inner-city areas and minority populations where there hadn’t been much insurance education to date, Armitage noted. “Jaimee helped to start a program in New Orleans, and four InVEST graduates recently were offered full-time employment in local agencies. Overall, InVEST currently has 60 percent minority student representation,” he said.
