NAMIC’s Industry Knowledge Manager Elected to Soc. of Insurance Research Board

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) named Ken Marshall, NAMIC’s Industry Knowledge Manager,
to the Board of Directors of the Society of Insurance Research (SIR). His term will expire at the end of 2004.

“Our industry’s ability to define, identify and effectively advocate its position on the many important issues that arise at the state and federal government level is in part a function of how well the industry’s research arm can generate compelling analytical arguments and useful information,” Marshall said. “NAMIC’s commitment to support the SIR in this capacity will only enhance our ability to serve the best interests of our membership and the industry generally.”

Representatives from two NAMIC member companies were also elected to the SIR Board of Directors. Joining Marshall as the newest SIR board members are: Meredith Chancey, Research Associate (Research & Development), Alfa Insurance, Montgomery, Ala.; and
Glenn Westlake, Research Director, American Family Insurance, Madison, Wis.

Marshall has worked for NAMIC for the past six years, originally as the State Issues Manager in NAMIC’s Regulatory Affairs Department where he tracked legislative and regulatory trends emerging at the state government level.

Marshall authored a state issues newsletter, served as staff liaison to the NAMIC automobile issues committee and represented NAMIC on an industry-wide coalition advocating advancement of strong statewide building code laws to improve safety and reduce catastrophic property damage.

He continues to manage and support NAMIC’s online legislative and regulatory tracking service.
