CPCU Society Introduces Four New National Leadership Institute Courses

The CPCU Society, an association for nearly 27,000 CPCU-credentialed industry professionals, will introduce four new career development and leadership courses at the spring 2003 CPCU Society National Leadership Institute (NLI), May 8-9, in Tampa, Fla. Open to both CPCU Society members and nonmembers, the NLI is an educational program for industry professionals looking to advance their careers or take on leadership roles within their organizations.

NLI attendees can work toward the NLI Certificate of Completion by completing four of five core certificate courses: communication skills, finance, project management, resilience, and facilitative leadership. In addition, four new NLI courses are available to attendees:

·Time Management—Managing the Only Non-Renewable Resource will instruct attendees on how to manage their personal work time. They will learn how to maximize personal energy cycles, learn tips on handling everyday work tasks in a time-efficient manner, and gain greater awareness of the psychological issues that affect use of work time.

·Coaching for Peak Performance educates attendees on how to become a “coaching” manager in order to achieve maximum productivity and performance. Proven coaching strategies, real-world examples of coaching techniques, and performance analysis and feedback will be used to demonstrate these concepts.

·Successful Negotiations and Managing Conflict will explore the “art” of successful negotiation. Attendees will learn the framework for conducting negotiations in a business setting, and explore problem-solving, conflict management, and intervention tools used during negotiating that improve the likelihood of a positive outcome.

·DiSCover the Secrets of Building Winning Relationships is a course designed to guide NLI attendees as they identify their communication style through their DiSC (Dominance Influence Steadiness Conscientiousness) Personal Profiles. Participants will use this personality profiling approach to learn more about their personal communication style and match it with their colleagues’ personalities, then review strategies that help increase productivity among different personalities.

In addition to leadership and career development courses, the spring 2003 NLI will feature networking opportunities and two keynote “Leadership Luncheon” presentations.

The NLI is open to everyone interested in advancing his or her career—CPCU Society members and nonmembers; insurance industry, financial services, accounting, and business professionals; and entry-level professionals to senior management.
