SEMCI is much maligned and misunderstood in the industry. SEMCI simple means the ability to use one set of information and receive back multiple responses from carriers. Sorry that it took so long for AMS and others to get that to work for them. We developed real-time agent quoting programs that tie in The Hartford, The Zenith and St. Paul Travelers along with regional carriers years ago. Since 2003 tens of millions of booked premiums have flown through our system for one small regional MGA.

So I am happy for AMS and wish them all the luck in the world, but what they are doing for SEMCI is not new.

I must agree that agents do base their sales on price, but the CSR take the easy road and places business with those companies that make their life easy. If a company’s software is not user friendly they tend to place business with a company whose software is. I feel this is the only answer – all the companies are on the same playing field after the initial info is entered. No need to plow through screen after screen of redundent information and learn 10 different systems with ten different IDs and Passwords.
