I think EMMI will be a very useful tool in the defense of med. mal. claims. Another major factor in malpractice claims is an unpaid medical bill and claims/suits are often retaliatory to dunning the patient for payment. A poor medical result and an unpaid medical bill make fertile ground for a medical malpractice claim.

Kevin O’Reilly strikes an important chord with this article. A study of informed consent documents in 157 hospitals, by Bottrell in Archives of Surgery, reported that 74% of the time the basic elements of informed consent are incomplete. The leader in the field of enhancing the pre-procedure communication process between physician and patient is a company called Dialog Medical. A flurry of announcements in late May reported that the Veterans Administration Health System just adopted Dialog Medical’s computerized informed consent application, iMedConsent, for all VA Medical Centers.
