I agree that there may be some problems in the insurance industry but why isn’t more said about the consumers?
Many consumers do not TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT
    (1) PERSONS LIVING IN SAME HOUSHOLD
    (2) CITATIONS OR ACCIDENTS
    (3) TRYING TO INSURE A VEHICLE THEY DO NOT OWN
    (4) SAYING THEY ARE MARRIED WHEN THEY ARE SINGLE
WHO GETS PUNISHED THE MOST? THE AGENT OF COURSE. IF A CLIENT CAN TAKE AN AGENT TO COURT FOR AN ERROR OR MISTAKE, WHEY CAN’T AGENTS TAKE CLIENTS TO COURT WHO LIE TO THEM? ANY COMMENTS ARE APPRECIATED
(NOT ALL CONSUMERS LIE – BUT THOSE WHO DO
ARE THE ONE THAT GRIPES THE MOST)

State Farm encouraged me to replace my hail damaged $11000 roof with a $5700 roof.I was never informed that this saved State Farm $5300 since they only pay for what is actually spent. True,I should have asked more questions but I have been with the company for 25 years and trusted my agent to give me the best advice.I was not compensated in any way for accepting the cheaper roof even though I paid higher premiums for years which were based on the more expensive roof.Do I have options other than just doing business with another company in the future?

Due to hail damage in my area, many houses are getting new roofs, gutters, etc. My neighbors’ insurance companies gave an assessment and wrote a check for the total cost. Beware consumers- I have had Shield of Shelter since 1989. An incomplete estimate to replace the roof, gutters, and other items was given, $1600 noted as depreciation cost (which may or may not be recovered)and a check written for less than half of the total replacement cost.

I was told that once the roof has been installed with gutters, etc., a final check would be written. Unlike most of the other insurance companies Shield of Shelter does not write one final check.

I asked a hypothetical question: If my house burned completely down, what is your procedure. The insurance company would give me a percentage of the cost and the remainder when it was completed.

I am changing to a new company. They are too busy to answer all questions. My next question would have been, what if I sell my lot to my next door neighbor. Do I receive the full amount to rebuild on another lot or do I only get a percentage?

Well I just filed my first ever insurance claim with farmers insurance. My van was broken into not 3 blocks from my house. I had work stuff and personal stuff in my van. I valued my loss at approx $1500.00, and Farmers says all they can give me is $200.00. I guess I will be looking for an insurance company this week that covers what is in my vehicle and will pay to replace it. If I deduct my $500 deductible, I lost $800.00. Does this sound like the action of a good insurance company? Not to me, I will be on the phone looking for a company that cares and will do the right thing if a claim comes in. 1st claim in about 15 years and this is result. Not sure why we pay insurance??

I was notified by my mortgage company that my home owners insurance had been cancelled on 8-30-09. I contacted Met Life Insurance Company and they stated, “yes it has been cancelled due to the lack of mold insurance. Needless to say this set me back about four feet. In order to maintain the policy in effect I would have to purchse an additional policy ranging anywhere from $1,100.00 to $1,500.00 or my policy would be cancelled remains cancelled. I think this falls pretty close to extortion. Met Life states in their policy that they do not cover mold damage of any kind, so what is the point other than “forcing me” to purchase this additional coverage. I have a very large deductable anyway on my house and chances are Met Life would not be out a cent if I indeed had to get my repairs done due to mold damage.
This action by Met Life is absolute criminal in my mind.
