COO Miller Exits St. Paul Travelers for OneBeacon

The St. Paul Travelers Companies, Inc. today announced that T. Michael Miller, co-chief operating officer, has resigned to pursue an opportunity outside of the company.

Miller is going to OneBeacon Insurance, a wholly owned subsidiary of White Mountains Insurance Group, Ltd., in mid-April to serve as chief operating officer. Initially, Miller will oversee OneBeacon’s specialty businesses and some key corporate functions.

In February, Miller and Brian MacLean were both promoted by St. Paul Travelers to the newly created positions of chief operating officers of the company, reporting to Jay Fishman, president and chief executive officer.

At St. Paul Travlers, Miller was responsible for the specialty business and the company’s regional executive organization, and MacLean was responsible for the commercial business, including the company’s runoff businesses, along with claim responsibilities.

In November 2003 when St. Paul announced its merger with Travelers, Miller, who had been executive vice president and chief executive officer for specialty commercial lines at The St. Paul, became chief executive officer of the combined specialty insurance operations.

On Miller’s move, OneBeacon CEO John Cavoores said, “I am very excited to welcome Mike as a partner. We’ve worked together in the past and I am confident that he will quickly add significant value to OneBeacon and the entire White Mountains organization. His stature in the business and knowledge of the specialty markets will accelerate our transformation into a highly-segmented, specialty carrier.”
