Notice that only 5.5% of truck accidents happen because the driver is tired. Around 70% occur because of a car that is driving unsafely around a large truck. Instead of spending all of this gov’t money creating more regulations for truck drivers, we should be spending money teaching motorists not to be idiots around an 80,000 pounds piece of equipment that is unable to stop/avoid them.

Hey Truckers Friend: here in NC and the other places I drive most truck/car accidents are trucks rear ending cars. There have been 5 or 6 trucks that have rear ended cars with fatal results around Charlotte in the past two years.

That’s because so many moron truckers in their heavy vehicles tailgate me and other drives so *&^%! closely to try and urge me out of the way so they can keep doing 20mph over the limit.

I’m no friend of truckers even though I’ve insured several. Until truckers start driving better I don’t want fatigue being any factor at all in their driving.

Yes, I know I’m lumping them all together, I’m sure there are good ones out there too.

On the same note, many rear-end crashes occur because of a car pulling in front of a truck without leaving the truck adequate slowing distance.

I agree that there are some truck drivers out there who are idiots and should have their CDL’s yanked, but many car drivers seem to think that the truck ought to be able to perform the same as their cars do as far as vision & stopping distance.
