Guess they did not interview anyone in the insurance industry. Maybe if they did, the numbers would not be so low.

My dad was an agent in the 60\’s and 70\’s in CA and he would tell me stories how they would take the underwriters out and get them drunk at lunch and then give them apps to approve. It sounded like standard procedures back then.

    Now U/W\’s are so tightassed!!…

Yep, I used to have notes on some of my rolodex cards for certain underwriters – \”do not call after 12:00.\” They would still be \”out to lunch.\”

I\’m surprised that anyone that submits rate filings to the Florida Insurance Department (OIR)isn\’t a certified drunk. They (OIR) can turn a \’tea toller\’ into an alcoholic overnight.

About those rolodex cards…..I just had mental notes about who should be called AFTER 1 pm if you had a somewhat strange risk to present….they were much more pliable…
When I scheduled my wedding reception, I was careful NOT to tell them a lot of insurance people would be there for fear they would surcharge the liquor tab….
Yes, in the mid-80\’s to mid-90\’s, liquor was applied to many submissions.

Funny…that\’s why agents drink. We used to just have to know our risks and markets-now we have to know their flavor of the month, how many pages we are allowed to email vs fax vs mail…it\’s a bit ridiculous.

I can honestly say that I have never had a drink before submitting a rate filing to the Florida OIR.

Afterwards, though, some of the after-work happy hour specials have looked pretty good…
