I wish someone would explain that to my company. Quarterly bonus…what\’s that??? We own a benefit company, but 20% of your medical costs are out of pocket…oh, and don\’t forget that we are working a FULL day on Friday, no jeans. We need to think outside the box……..

I have to say, my company gets it! My employers are so great! I see corporate America \”trimming the fat\” and good employees are out the door because of it. I wish everyone could realize that there is more to life than being the biggest, most profitable company out there. What fun us having increased profitability if you can\’t enjoy it?!

Ever hear of Medco? My company has given them \”the pen\” in deciding which meds are tier 1, 2, 3…and have essentially started pushing employees toward medications that are more expensive to my employer and don\’t necessarily have more benefit than the old tried and true meds previously prescribed at a lower cost. We\’ve left the fox in charge of the hen house!!

I\’m a single working mother of 2 kids. I have to pay $220 a month just for medical, dental and vision. They raise deductibles, co-pays, the exclusion list and what is not covered keeps growing and now \”tier\” medicine. We are being nickled and dimed to death by our employers.
Sure it is easy for some 6 figure salaried employee to pay a mere $200 a month for his/her family, but what about the clerical employee barely making enough to keep their family\’s collective head above water. 10% of their take-home pay means the difference between groceries and health insurance.
My favorite excuse for all this: \”we have a responsibility to our stock holders to reduce costs and increase profits…etc.\” on the backs and wallets of it\’s employees?
Ohh and while they are at it…take a few more holidays away. We\’re down to 6 now. Heck make us work on christmas too that should increase profits!

After having worked for a couple of places that sound similar to the one where Broken works, I know I\’m lucky to be where I am.

Our basic benefits are free and adding the dental/vision plan was very affordable. We wear jeans to work every day, saving us money on business apparel. The company matches 50% of our 401K contribution. We get almost as many paid holidays as a bank, plus vacation and other opportunities to earn paid days off.

In return, the company asks that the employees volunteer for the community on various projects. So we sometimes spend a weekend picking up trash along the highway or participating in a charity softball game. Fine with me!

The company is continuing to grow, we\’re up to almost 400 employees, but it still feels very much like a family business and it looks like it\’s going to stay that way.
