I fail to see why otherwise reasonable people seem to believe that whatever a stripper gets she deserves. I have no problem with the “adult industry” myself so that might color my view, but if I woman is being paid to take off her clothes – that’s it. Unless they paid for sex they don’t get to touch. There is a code of ethics here. That’s why most strippers that do house calls come with a big burly driver.

She should be sued for her lies, but doesn’t have any money. Had Nifong not gone off all half-cocked (pun intended) the city would be blameless. This whole thing has been absurd from the beginning.

Unfortunately Durham is going to be on the hook because of Nifong. It sucks, but he did materially affect these students’ lives and they should be compensated for their losses.

To risk opening up a basketball sized can of worms – can we say “damaged reputation”?

Maybe the Rutger’s women’s basketball player suing Imus has been taking notes. Whatever her name was, reputation has been so damaged I don’t even care about her, come to think of it I don’t care about these kids either.

Think it’s funny though that they’re stopping the investigation because it might show they screwed up. Isn’t that like changing your thesis two weeks before graduation?

First of all, notice how the article identifies by name the falsely accused but not the accuser. Second, the police department is going to halt the investigation because they might find a problem? What? Isn’t that the point? And the reason they are stopping the investigation is because they might get sued if they find something? Again, what? If they don’t find the problem they can’t be held accountable? What?

The police might find evidence of a crime in a Democrat adminstration. Therefore, “Move along folks, there’s nothing to see here.”

I used to think that police were hired to investigate crime, even potential crimes. Whaddya know.

Either way, it was wrong in the first place for the players to hire a black stripper. Shows what type of character these future leaders are made of. Shameful. I fault the stripper for the false accusation but what does her employment as a stripper tell about race relations on that campus?

Right on, Scott. Maybe halting the investigation is a privilege under governmental immunity, but as an insurance claims person, I don’t think i would get away with putting that kind of instruction in a claim file without being held to “bad faith”. Stop the investigation because we might turn up something that our adversaries could use to bolster their case against us while at the same time damaging our defenses? I would not want to be the person on the witness stand who masterminded such a tactic. The jury would be infuriated. The award would be inflated merely by this sort of action, whether there were any advers facts or circumstances to be discovered or not, and in this case it appears there are plenty. This tactic has, in my mind, created a real problem for the defense of any civil actions the accused boys may choose to pursue, and has actually increased the likely jury award.

This is total bad faith. Look for a collateral lawsuit over this.

So much for compensating the wrongfully accused.

Okay “Saint” while you’re intitled to your opinion…what an idiodic statement…And you don’t think she wouldn’t have a real case against them for discrimination because they refused to hire her because of her race?

What… are you – a racist? Just because the color of her skin was different doesnt mean that she didn’t have the same right as a white stripper to earn a living – Hellloooo – what century do you live in?

Right or wrong – people do what they think they need to in order to make a living – And for the record – I don’t agree with her “preferred vocation” – However, I’m sure McDonalds would have been happy to hire her at 5.75 an hour

The difference between the Imus case and the Lacrosse is that those kids were in every newspaper – in every city – in every state and their names and reputations were plastered in every media form possible – I would have to look up – whats-her-name on the Rutgers sports website and figure out who she even was…

She probably wants the $$ because she isn’t good enough to move into the WNBA and wants to retire early…

Saints Fan, you’re an idiot apologist or you’re black who can’t see past his/her race, as ususal. Would have been ok for them to hire a white stripper? How about date a black girl? Is it OK for them to hire a black professor but not a black stripper? Stripping, or as I recall, “Exotic Dancing” as your side called it during the days when the WHITE boys were hung out to dry, is LEGAL. It says nothing about race relations. I’m sure there are plenty of white strippers in Durham to choose from. Your comment is so typical of a liberal white or an entitlement minded black it belongs not on here but in the trash, along with that stripper.

Being wrongfully accused is not the issue: they were prosecuted malisciously. It was total misfeasance. The city of Durham or the county or whatever should be pushing money at these familes hand over fist to try to get themto settle for 50% of what a jury would give them. Nifong should go to jail, and so probably should some on his staff.

What Imus and the Rutgers “hos” have to do with this I don’t know, but there is no equivalence whatsoever between what Nifong did and what Imus did.

Just like some say Mike Vick deserved what he got then I say the same about the guys. As most of the posts here and in other articles say, people should take PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. The players don’t deserve any money because they got themselves in their own situation and now the school, alumni have to pay for THEIR mistake. Duke University should sue THEM for disorderly conduct because this frat house was on the campus and they also harassed several Black females as they were passing by the house that night. They should sue too.

Let’s just make this a sue happy pot and let everyone sue everyone else and see who’s left standing in the end. As far as I am concerned it wasn’t like these guys were All-American in the first place. They shouldn’t get paid for their stupidity.

Hey, Hey, Hey people…let’s not discourage those of us who work in the sex entertainment field. In fact, let’s bring the sex industry into the daylight in this country and encourage more sex entertainers by supporting COYOTE (“Cast Off Your Old, Tired Ethics”), get the ho’s organized, and start taxing the sex industry. Maybe take some pressure off your income taxes. Besides, having been in insurance claims for more years than I care to remember, I’ve been compared to a ho many times.

Another reason to get rid of the Greek system.

I don’t think these guys should get anything but actual costs. Nifong continued to prosecute even after DNA evidence proved him wrong. Because they were maliciously prosecuted – and persecuted – they should be compensated for their losses. Their only mistake was hiring a stripper that wound up falsely accusing them. Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against strippers, just this one.

Unfortunately someone is going to walk away rich from this. And I agree Nifong should have served jail time.

I am opposed to strippers and prostitutes and porn and so on and on, so I cannot believe that I am writing to defend one’s right to hire any race of ***** one wants, but only a total whacko whose brain has been completely addled by leftist propaanda would deny morally challenged frat boys the right to hire whores of their racial preference.

In fact, when they placed their order they stipulated that at least one had to be white. Since neither were (and both were ugly) they were unhappy which led to the whores being insulted, which led to one of them avenging herself with the false charges. For which, I might add, I am not sure she has yet been prosecuted.

Al – please do not be as stupid as to make this a party issue. The accuser was a lying hooker that was trying to make a quick buck and the D.A. clearly messed up. It’s pretty clear cut. Quit trying to paint this as a demo or repub issue as both partys have enough to deal with.

    Saints Fan,

do you even hear yourself? Ok, lets use your logic. any black girl who lives in a poor househould in the ghetto and gets raped by her momma’s latest boyfriend gets what she deserves. Your statement that they players got what they deserved because they legally hired a stripper is ludicrous! They deserved to be falsely accused of RAPE? And why should black girls who got jeered at be able to sue? There are no damages there, there is no law broken, it’s not illegal to call names, not yet anyway. If every white guy could sue due to black scoffing, you’d have nothing!

Saints Fan — I have to agree with Reagan on this one. You are stupid and I mean really, really stupid. Your posts are SO off base I now really wish the IJ would moderate the posts. S.F. – you are a racist, plain and simple.

Why is it again that people (men) cannot hire “exotic dancers”, which is completely LEGAL? And why do the dancers and the watchers have to be of the same race?

I live in Durham. I am white male and a independent party voter. I have a white female friend that was ran off the road twice by an white male ex-coworker. He kept stalkinig her.
She filed charges against him. The Durham PD treated her like trash. The Durham PD/Magistrate said they could not locate him to serve him court papers – and this was after she went to the Durham PD and the Magistrate and gave them his exact home address with a Google Map.

Incredible – she still lives in fear. $5 million is all Durham carries. It should be $5 billion. Jerks.

The City, Nifong, and the Police are all vulnerable to a suit by the falsely accused students although it remains to be seen how collectible they might be. As for the “certain ethnic stripper”, if she had any assets the City and the students should go after her for all associated costs in prosecuting and defending against her intentional and malicious lies. The only reason this got so much press was because she was black and her employers were white. That ain’t racist, just fact. While unpopular to some, the “assumption of risk” doctrine is also playable. When you elect to remove all of your clothing and dance around a bunch of guys drinking beer, what do you expect will happen? As the saying goes, anything for a buck.

I fail to understand what the insurance company for the city has in mind. This case is valued at far in excess of the $5 million policy limit, so what more is there for the insurance company to lose? Truly stupid advice from the carrier.
