West Bend is going to report a 106. From what I’ve heard, they’re telling some of their big agents that this isn’t just any ol’ 106, either. If they don’t get it fixed quick, they’re headed for 110 or worse in 2009. 2007 was 101 or 102, I think, so this is a super regional that is in super trouble.

But didn’t I read that their combined ratio is in the low 90’s? Hanover is doing it right, and will be a carrier to reckon with.

Can they acquire Harleysville? Will they?

If I’m an agent heavy with West Bend or Cincy, I’d slow down right now. Neither one of them is heading for good ground – in fact, by the end of 2009 at least one of them could be swamped. All I’m saying is that you need to find other carriers at least for 2009 and probably in 2010. These two have too big of problems to worry about actually helping agents.

Well I can tell you that ERIE has been kicking butt in WI. They have a great HO product and competitive pricing.
