I hope Congress remains vigilant and requires AIG to repay the American people. With regards to bonuses, AIG shouldn’t be allowed to pay any type of bonus until the taxpayers have been repaid. I am doubtful AIG will ever back the US taxpayers back, and if they do it will be pennies on the dollar.
If AIG wants to be loved, it is going in the wrong direction. AIG was the most successful insurance company in the world because of leadership, innovation and a low expense ration. They had products and prices that had to be bought. If you want to be loved join a lonely hearts club. If you want to be successful, do what Greenberg did. Maybe they need incentives to keep their valuable players but they don’t need to keep paying the counterparties. That should be cut off now at the treasury by making it illegal to use taxpayers money for that purpose. That is a never ending stream of outflow of taxpayers money and I for one in this democracy want it to stop.
Yeah, unloved. Right on! And another thing. I hear they’re using our hard-earned taxpayer dollars to pay claims on policies. What’s THAT all about??? That is one practice that really has to stop. I can’t believe that the government is letting this foolishness go on.
Liddy likes to play the victim, say he stepped from the sidelines to rescue the American taxpayer, etc, but as the article mentions he was still on the board at Goldman.
Goldman was a primary benefactor of all this bailout money to AIG.
The potential conflict of interest must be investigated particularly when such large sums are involved.
Remember that AIG Insurance Division NEVER TOOK any of the bailout money. Why? Because they were all financially sound and remained so due to the fact that the state insurance commissioners made sure they stayed that way. The part of AIG that is/was having all the trouble and received the bailout was the Financial Products division.

People in Congress like Dennis Kucinich might consider shutting up and letting their Tax Payers company have a chance to be successful.

The man with the biggest heart wins; the man who truly cares about the American people.
