isn’t it wonderful to have a president who puts his plans into action and makes positive changes in how things run instead of one that asks dick cheney to read him a bedtime story every nite :)

Rosei, Do you wake up in a new world every day? Where do you suppose that $1 billion dollars is coming from? The money tree in the Rose garden? Good grief….just go down to the Federal Reserve and print off some more money to pay for everything and devalue the dollar even more. I am soooooo tired of this $%%^&%^!

Yeah it’s a great program – – -Too bad there’s only 8 cars in the country that qualify for this terrific program!

oh tired i suppose you are one of those neocons that thought raiding Iraq and lowering taxes and outing Valerie Plame were good things for a president to do. Now we have a president that acts and all you can do is criticize. im so happy we have Obama and a Democratic congress to clean up bush and cheney’s mess

Rosie: I am not one of those people. However, I take umbrage with a president who thinks throwing money at everything is the way to solve problems…when we don’t have the money to throw. He has only been in office 6 months and look what has happened. Now he wants to push through a health care reform that will do nothing but cost EVERYONE money. I don’t get care if you are a Republican or a Democrat – stop, think and analyze at least a little before you start making countrywide changes.

Like I said before this “Rosie” is just pulling our leg. Good entertainment but it is getting old. No one really thinks that way and is free to roam the streets or post on computers.

Rosie is obviously unemployed and living off Welfare, otherwise you would think she would be concerned but paying more taxes so large corporations can continue to swindle money.
America is great, that people like her have a place to live vs a third world country where she should be living. If it wasn’t for the conservatives, we would already be a third world country and raising our flag to King Obama.

I belive the intent is to encourage new car sales along with improving US fuel effeciency, but I’m discouraged that the only people being “rewarded” with the huge car discount are those that currently drive gas guzzlers… For those people that have been driving more economical cars over the past few years – they are not entitled to the credit. It reminds me of the mortgage bailout – for those that went into foreclosure or stopped paying… they were given a second chance. For those that have been paying along – struggling to get by are not given a break.

I’m with you Rosie! I think it’s a great idea and I’m glad that we finally have someone in office who is willing to implement creative ideas to stimulate the economy. I agree that this county does not money to be throwing around, but sometimes you have to spend money to make money.

    Dear Rosie & Optimist:

The term you meant to plagarize was this classic from Rahm Emanuel…

“You have to PRINT money to make money…”

Has Obama stopped to think about how these people are going to pay for these vehicles? Since we are now in double digit unemployement numbers I would think that most of the people driving the gas hogs are doing so because the can’t afford a car payment.

Yes just another “great” Obama idea!!

Yeah….great program. My car would get $3500 to be turned in but I could sell it for $7000. What do you think I would do?

This program will be a disaster for the people turning in there old cars, and it wont be much deferent than the housing crisis. People who can marginally afford the payments on a new car are being encouraged to purchase new cars. When they have a personal financial crisis they will not be able to make the payments on the new car and it will be repossesed. In the mean time the cars that they have turned in will have been destroyed resulting in higher prices for all used cars and pushing these people further to the edge.

I don’t think it’s fair to blame this program for the people out there that make poor finacial decisions and buy something they can’t afford. This is an incentive program – not something put in place to force people to buy new cars. It’s up to US to make responsible decisions regarding whether or not we should take advantage of it.

I don’t really get the economic rationale behind this program either, but this is not like the bailouts or the housing crisis. To my understanding, the government is doing nothing to help people qualify for financing a new car if they aren’t already eligible. The program only applies to model year 2001 and older vehicles that get less than 18? mpg average, and provides a one-time $$ incentive to junk an old vehicle and buy a brand new one which gets better fuel efficiency. From where I sit, this really isn’t any different from a tax rebate for installing a windmill or upgrading your home’s insulation.

Additionally this program increases the odds at the domestic car manufacturers surviving the recession. It’s not the worst way to spend a billion dollars, though I’d rather they just stop spending our money altogether.

This program really doesn’t provide very much incentive, IMO. I’ll be surprised if they even spend all the money that’s been allocated, without raising the incentive amount.

The Idea is good, But who is it going to really help!
The majority of the people that have these gas guzzlers are the people that can’t afford a new automobile due to there so called credit scores thanks to who ever for that! In the research that iam able to come up with in talking with the automobile dealerships locally unless you have a credit score of 750 or better or a lot of cash, guess what no car. so then it comes back to the people that do qualify because they do have the credit score, but ah ah they don’t have these old gas guzzlers so there you go. You know the Gov’t treats people like they are stupid by coming up with stuff like this thats not in the best interest of anyone but it sure sounds like hay. we are going to do something to help you.
Come on people be realistic. If the Gov’t rally wanted to help people. set up some kind of a program where people can go and buy a car without a credit score, look at the real picture on credit if people are paying there bills and paying them on time then make it possible to buy a car. It is at a point now that everything is based on Credit Score a prediction of the future. how much longer is it before the Gov’t will be stamping the # on your forehead.

    I’m a car dealer.
I set the negotiating price for my Ford F150 at 20K before this plan.
I’m also read Obama’s new plan.
I know I’ll see more traffic in my place due to this 4500 rebate.
Therefor, I raise my starting price to 24K cause I know that your going to see 4500 voucher from the Fed.

Does anyone really believe they are going to get 4500 off of what they would have paid prior to this program???

To all of you idiots out there thinking that your going to go get a new car for such a GREAT deal….Wake up.

This program is so great, it’s already out of money. So, now they have to come up with another couple billion because the car companies paid for radio and TV advertising that is just really gearing up, and the Gov’t will have a serious problem if they try to end the program now.
Besides, who does this program really benefit? The average hardworking citizen just trying to get by most likely can’t afford a new car that qualifies. The cars that I can afford to buy are the ones this program is designed to take off the road and destroy. I would also bet that the environmental impact of destroying every car removed from the road far outweighs the benefit of every fuel efficient car purchased.

They are going to call the new program “Cash for Cripples”. Think of all the money that could be saved by just making a one time payment for cripples and then eliminating them, thus getting rid of a lot of healthcare cost. The president did say that healthcare would be partially paid by finding as much savings as possible.
