Seems like Work Comp is not part of the National Health Care debate. Could it be the lawyers and unions don’t want their domaine touched?

Oh, just wait! The medical piece WILL BE rolled into the pending health insurance fiasco. Attorneys will still get their pockets lined though. Especially here in Illinois! Blue State, blue system, bottom of the heap! Companies/jobs are leaving in droves, to escape the ludicrous statute in this state.

Had a recent experience where I was injured on the job and owner and all ee’s were fully aware of the incident. I went to the hospital for xrays and some minor patching up, returning to work a few days later.

When the employer received the bill from the hospital six weeks after the injury, employer notified the WC carrier and instructed the WC carrier to deny the claim, stating employer had no knowledge, never happened, etc. I had to file a petition for a hearing! Once the carrier heard I was requesting a hearing, they called me to investigate.
In the course of “checking out my story,” the carrier finally got the employer to admit that I was injured on the job and the carrier paid the hospital bill. Is it customary for a WC carrier to deny a claim for medical expenses without contacting the injured party? Oh and the kicker – the employer is a licensed insurance agency!

I would think the carrier would be expected to trust that the business owner would tell the truth.

No, what your employer attempted was fraud. They were clearly more concerned with any possible rate increases (or deductible payments) than resolving the claim itself.

I worked in Oklahoma for a natural gas company and was injured at work. What an unfriendly state Oklahoma is for the working man. I had my first shoulder surgery performed by a physician picked by the company. What a mistake that was!!! The doctor didn’t perform the surgery correctly and I suffered chronic pain and discomfort for approximately one year and a half. I had to file a lawsuit against my employer because the insurance company denied my second surgery!!! The pathetic part of all this is these insurance companies can legally do this. I had my second surgery performed by another doctor in Oklahoma and I am on the way to recovery thanks to my workers compensation lawyer and my family!!! If you get hurt working in Oklahoma you better have a good lawyer and extended family to help you!!!! Thank god I did! I am currently in Nevada and I am going to work here in Nevada when my shoulder and arm are healed. Unless they change the laws for the benefit of the worker I have no desire to ever work in Oklahoma again.
