One thing I forgot was the Congressmen and Senators all have to take the healthcare plan they give us and pay half of the premium like most private sector jobs. Oh and by the way they also have to forgo their current retirment plan of 100% of their current annual salary and take Social Security like the rest of us. Welcome to being a citizen of the US congressmen and Senators.

With regards to #2 Insurance companies accepting a excess profit law, well all I can say is no sacred cows! and the health insurance has very little years with extrodinary loses like homeowners or flood. It is very close to life insurance where the laws of large numbers and mortality tables make claim payment extreamly predictable. It shouldnt be a problem except for health insurers stock holders. Oh well again- No sacred cows.

My sister was very happy with her physician right up until the day she died under his care and misdiagnosis. She was 63. R.I.P.

The only way we will benefit from Healthcare Reform is if we have no sacred cows.

    1. Doctors cant make a million a year, they cant own rehab and testing labs where they send us for test to prove something they already know.

    2. Insurance companies need standard policies like we have in personal auto and Homeowners policy. HO3 H05 HO8. etc. They also need an excess profit law where they must return a certain profit back if they make too much money.

    3. Pharmacutical companies need to sell us their medicine for the same amount they sell to Canada and only make a certain profit margin after R & D.

    4. Lawyers- We need to get them out of the business of sucking on society. Mandatory Tort reform.

    5. Congressmane are not allowed to take any political contributions from any entity which is involved in heathcare. Insurance Companies, Lawyers, Doctors. Etc. You see what happend when Dodd and Frank go sweetheart deals from Freddie and Fannie. We all almost went broke.

    6. Get Chiropractors out of healthcare. For goodness sakes my vet has more training than they do. News flash! They are not doctors.

    7. Hospitals cant charge $3000 for an emercency room vist. They should be paid by the hour and that does not include the waiting room. $15. asprin. Give me a break.

Not sure why any writer would choose to put Kaiser in an article focused on Mayo Clinic. Kaiser is far inferior to Mayo by any measure. Am thinking that this is another piece of Kaiser paid media (halo effect?).

Bill, interested in running for office or hosting your own talk show.

    Good points, all.

Just wish some of my liberal “friends” would listen to points like these instead of not supporting ANY reform if it does not involve nationalizing health care…

It’s just nice to hear someone villifying someone OTHER THAN the insurance industry.

Wonder how established docs who already own clinics & imaging centers feel about divesting their other interests and going on a flat salary.

Also wonder how recent med school grads will be able to make enough to pay off their student loans….

But lawyers outha have to do the same thing!

Tort reform first. See where that gets us and the re-evaluate.

Chiros? They help me 3 – 4 times a year. Cheapest Doctor bill I get.

No we need real reform and I think both Conservatives and liberals agree.

Doctors make too much money and maybe med school shouldnt cost as much as it does as well. Sorry Ed, your chiropractor might crack the right bone, but doctor he is not. you can get a degree in chiropractic medicine in 18 months. It takes 7 years to be a vet. I would rather be treated by the veternarian.

Remember if this is to work – NO SACRED COWS.

I agree with all of it but numbers 2 and 6.

The problem I have with number 2. It just takes one year full of claims for an insurance company to lose years worth of profit. And in reality, they do give their profits back by lowering their premium so they can drive in more business. But Health insurance companies have been losing money for the past few years because the people demand they pay for little things (like most dental plans cover yearly cleanings)

I do agree that reform needs to happen.

I am not a big fan of the notion that the entire system has to be torn down just so government can reinvent the wheel.

Are you happy with the stock in AIG that you own?

and if we could get our Federal Representatives off of their own plan and onto the same as everyone elses, it will be a darn good plan. Until then, they will cut and cut just like they do with medicare. What do they care, they’ll never go on medicare so let’s cut it as the old people aren’t paying us taxes anyway? Right, politicians? Jerks!

Maybe my Chiro Bill is the smallest med bill I get because it is the one profession in the medical world that takes the least amount of education? Smallest Loans? Cheapest Med Mal premium?

Salaries are now regulated for the financial industry and the auto dealers. Next on the chopping block are insurance executives. Who will be after that: Oil companies? Pharmaceutical companies? Lumber companies? Why not the entertainment industry? Why not athletes? Soon the government will tell everyone how much they’re allowed to earn. It’s going to be fun.

The logical conclusion that the government will draw and use as a basis is that the Public Option, with all doctors being employees of the federal government and paid salaries, is obviously the best fix. Consider, however, that the emphasis will shift from patient satisfaction to government satisfaction, not with outcomes but rather with cost savings. Any idiot understands that this equals rationing.
best to hope you & your families don’t get any major illnesses after you “useful” years are used up. Pull the plug.
