Beecher Carlson Appoints Kearns as SVP, National Energy Practice

Beecher Carlson has expanded its National Energy practice with the appointment of Jacklyn Kearns as senior vice President.

Kearns brings 28 years of insurance and risk management experience to Beecher Carlson with deep expertise and specialization in the energy industry. She will partner with independent power developers, utilities and oil and gas companies to develop comprehensive insurance and risk management programs.

Kearns joins Charlie Pierpont in Beecher Carlson’s Darien, Connecticut office.

Prior to joining Beecher Carlson, Kearns served as consultant VP, enterprise risk management for Centre Solutions, a work-out division of Zurich Financial Services, where she successfully established Zurich’s ERM practices within Centre, a group which produced the third largest profit numbers for ZFS.

Prior to that, she served as director, risk management & insurance for Premcor Refining Group Inc., a Fortune 500 oil refinery group based in Greenwich, Connecticut which operated four refineries with a combined crude oil volume processing capacity of approximately 800,000 barrels per day. Her responsibilities included establishment and management of the company’s captive insurance company and authority over all operational risk assessment, risk transfer, insurance policy negotiation and procurement in conjunction with independent brokers. She also supervised third party claims administration requirements for the company’s workers’ compensation program and all budgeting, billing and cost allocation associated with the program. Kearns also supported the acquisition of two refineries and disposition of two non-operational refineries and the regulatory, risk, insurance and compliance issues associated with the transactions. Premcor was acquired by Valero in 2005 and operates as a subsidiary under that brand today.

She has also served as senior account executive at AON supporting a book of Fortune 500 and private equity firms in the company’s Risk Transfer group. Before that, Kearns served as director of insurance and special projects of Biomatrix, an account she produced while at Alexander &Alexander which was later acquired by Genzyme Inc., one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies. She started her career in insurance and risk management at Alexander and Alexander in New York.
