I’m not sure a 1.4% difference warrants a press release. I guess any excuse to get your name in the paper will do.

Well I can tell you that if you use our agency’s satisfaction figures with insurers property claims, that number will be significantly different shortly. Insurer’s apparently HATE payingn home claims.

Insurers hate paying homeowners claims because it’s so much easier for insureds to cheat on the claim, and far to many will take full advantage of the situation to try to cheat the insurer. It’s a badge of honor to later brag about how much was “stolen”.

Ex: Fl. law says that if a roof is 25% damaged then the entire roof must be replaced. After H. Wilma, one homeowner was missing a few shingles from his roof. He himself tore off enough to be over 25%, got paid for a new roof, then replaced the shingles. And bragged about to everyone who would listen.

My brother had metal roofs on his house, barn, outbuildings. Hail dented, but ddd not pierce them. He got paid for all new roofs, never replaced them. And bragged about it, even to me, an insurance agent.

Property claims settlements would be a whole lot easier if fraud against an insurance co. weren’t so prevalent, and such a badge of honor.

Who hasn’t heard someone say “I’ve paid premium all these years and haven’t had a claim. I’m getting my money back. And besides, everyone knows, insurance companies are crooks,”?

Agreed. A 1.4% difference is insignificant. The range of error of the survey has to be higher than that.

Temblor is dead right. I co-own a small independent adjusting company with 7 adjusters and it seems like every other day I have a Homeowner calling to complain about something that isn’t covered. I get so sick of hearing about all the premiums they have paid over the years, like that is supposed to earn them something extra that isn’t covered. Homeowners love to blame their agents too. “They didn’t tell me that isn’t covered” or the adverse of “Well, my agent said it was covered.”

If I had a dime for every time I heard a homeowner say “that isn’t fair” I would be retired. I can’t do it but I always want to tell them what my old man used to tell me and brothers when we were kids. “Fair, don’t whine to me about fair. A fair is where you take a pig to win a prize.” Just once I would like to try that out to see how they respond.

People are so hellbent on cheating on HO claims. They do it all the time with no fear of any consequences. When they do get caught they get really angry like it’s my adjusters fault. Most of our clients pay the ACV of a claim up front and mail it directly to the insured. On claims where I or our adjuster suspect or know the person is BSing but the carrier paid anyway I will ask the company to send the depreciation holdback directly to us. Then I have our adjuster hand deliver the check and look to see if the “extra” were done or not. In about 35 to 40% of the cases the work wasn’t done. It’s just a thing where people think “hey I have an insurance claim, I can use this to get cash.”

They aren’t satisfied only because they don’t get paid everything they want. The fact that people are less satisfied is seldom based on the fact that they got paid less than should, it based on the fact they didn’t get paid as much as they wanted.
