Criminals know that cameras and sensors are everywhere. Businesses use much better tech than they did in years past.
    Sign of the times.

    Agree:
A close relative of mine, who is a detective in a large metro area, told me that they always knew the few who were commiting the majority of the crimes we just couldn’t prove it – now we have their smiling faces on camera and with the baggy pants (low tech) they wear, they can no longer out run us.

With police departments cutting staff and budgets, how do we know it’s not a change in reporting patterns?

Very good question youngin. That is something to consider, but even if instead of 1000 police officer, they have 500, I think victims would still REPORT the crimes, but having the crimes solved would be another thing all together.

I have to say I think Slim’s comment is the major factor. I heard on the news that shortly after Obama was elected, there was a run on guns and ammo, for fear of Obama taking the guns away. The criminals watch the news, too, and I am sure they heard that and thought “Dang, there is now a better chance that the person I am mugging might be packing heat”. I think that makes a little more sense.
