Cruise Ships Traveling In Changing Legal, Security Climate

    Since I cruise often, I found the article interesting. I am left with a few questions, though. Does the US have the authority to enforce this new law for ships without a US registry? I think they probably do not but I suppose could make a requirement to comply if they use a US port but that would have the potential to drive the cruise industry out of some US ports.

    I hope someone with a legal background will weigh in on this.

    Also, why couldn’t the law be passed giving absolute jusrisdiction to the FBI if the ship docks at a US port, giving them the authority to turn the case over to local authorities, after their investigation, if it does not warrant federal involvement? I’m just thinking that if it is an enforcement problem, which it appears to be from the article, that issue has not been solved.
