The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) revealed that its 2010 benefit dinner will feature presentations by two famous sports figures: Major League Baseball great Ken Griffey Jr. and hockey legend Mark Messier.
Greg Case, president and chief executive officer of Aon Corp., will be the dinner chair for the fundraising event.
At the dinner, the IICF will present Maurice R. “Hank” Greenberg, chairman and chief executive officer of C. V. Starr & Co., with the 2010 ‘Double I’ award for influence in the industry and impact in the community.
Griffey and Messier will speak and present grants to their favorite charities at the Dec. 8, 2010 event, to be held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
The IICF pools insurance industry resources to provide grants, volunteer service, and leadership to charitable organizations.
Griffey retired from Major League Baseball in 2010 with 630 home runs, fifth all-time. Playing for the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, and Chicago White Sox over 22 seasons, Griffey won 10 Gold Glove awards and was a 12-time All-Star.
Messier, the only National Hockey League player to serve as captain for two Stanley Cup championship teams, is second all-time in the NHL for regular season points, playoff points and regular season games played. He won five championships with the Edmonton Oilers and one with the New York Rangers, where he now serves as special assistant to the president and general manager.
Since its inception in 1994, the IICF has contributed more than $20 million and 120,000 volunteer hours to hundreds of community nonprofit organizations.
