I look at these surveys with a jaundiced eye. The only way I see small business adding jobs is for the economic climate improving with the change over in Congress. If the tax situation gets settled and small business owners are not penalized by Obama and his minions, Obamacare either repealed or defunded and Cap & Tax done away with, then the country can be put on a path for economic rebound.

think their employees are gonna rip them off? Wow!
My last boss was one of the worst liars I have ever met – constantly confronting people about imagined infractions, even falsely accused me of stealing an insured’s payment! Never an apology – guess that was too demeaning. Always thought the employees were out to get over. Very sad.

Bulldog, How did you get on an Insurance Blog to plug guitar courses? Are you from Mars? If you can’t comment on the article, stay off of it. Prankster, it is unfortunate about your boss experience. I think there is so much tension and turmoil in the workplace now due to what is going on in the country, many bosses jump to conclusions and look for someone to blame. Sometimes the problem is at the company end and we have to get it resolved with them on sweep payments etc.

I had a boss once accuse me of smoking weed at work and fire me for it. So odd given I don’t smoke regular cigarettes (never did), don’t drink (did very little in the past) and come off as one of the biggest nerds. Turns out it was another co-worker. I should have sued them for the false accusation and improper firing.

Straighted Laced, if you didn’t sue the employer for improper firing under Employment Practices Liability, shame on you. Employers have to be very careful how they handle employment situations. I am an agency employer myself and I would have to have concrete evidence before I would take action on someone, not just a suspicion. Employers do have a right to have an employee drug tested if they suspect drug use, especially if the employee drives a company owned vehicle. The employer could be in a heep of trouble if they knowingly employ someone who is on drugs and an accident occurs. Difficult problem to deal with.

Yes, there is a great deal of anxiety felt by the owners as well as employees; however, I personally don’t believe the core essence of most people’s moral fiber is altered when faced with huge financial uncertainties.

If you are of good moral character, you will weather adversity with good moral conduct. If you were a punk to begin with, a punk you will remain.

Straight, your ex-boss was a punk. That’s a disgrace what happened to you.

I believe there are far more people out there with good moral fiber than the so called “punks”. Punks don’t last in the long term. Owners of companies who are punks will go out of business because they don’t have good business practices and employees will rebel and quit if they aren’t treated fairly. Having said that, some employers have hired people of poor moral fiber and the employee rips them off before they are caught. In this uncertain economy, some people are paranoid about their personal situation and try to abscond with company funds. I have seen many cases where an agent will take premiums from a client and not remit to the company. They always seem to get caught and their license is lifted, but they think they can get away with it. Not!
