When a union is needed to protect the ignorant lazy spineless worker from the abuses of the bosses who ARE OUR GOVERNMENT SOMETHING IS terribly wrong. March on Obama. I mean really, who is really being protected and who needs protection. Cant’ lift a luxury mattress anymore because you gained 50 pounds and have arthritis in your elbow from a slip/fall at Dollar General, get a new job.

Our economy and society as a whole cannot afford the financial preasure that unions put on our ability to compete in the global market as well as the legacy costs associated with employing american workers Especially government sector workers.

Fix this problem and American will kick the crap out of the rest of the world economically again.

Unions once served a purpose. However, they’ve outlived their usefulness and are now a drain on productivity. Their motto is rooted in the industrial revolution; “protect the job”. Very short-sighted. It retarded creatvity and productivity. The UAW is to thank for the downfall of the American auto industry. Everytime it doesn’t get what it wants, the union fabricates a way to try and leverage the public to sympathize with it. The Teamsters are notorious for striking. Without trucks, the economy is paralyzed. So, everybody wants companies to settle with them just to get things back to normal. Unions suck.

How does a housekeeping job get more difficult after 19 years? Maybe the workers get older, weaker, and lazier. Just like a professional athlete, you can’t make a career last forever when you have to rely on your body.

If we declared this a monarchy (’cause that’s what it would take, people) and got rid of unions, then unscrupulous “bosses” will screw the workers….at each company or through industry collusion. Then unions will come back. s it stands, market corrections drive the work off-shore. When all the crappy, back-breaking jobs are gone, unions will disappear and you will be loving life. On welfare. We’ve built a beautiful laiseez-faire Democracy people. Stop your whining and enjoy it while you can! Thank goodness I invested everything in Pet Rocks & Have Nice Day bumper stickers waybackwhen and kept the money under a rock. Livin’ largesse.

Union suck? Let’s get rid of the forty hour work week and especially overtime! With all the unemployed people, the minimum wage should be abolished. And why should kids be exempt from working for whatever the market will pay? Paid vacations, and pensions equal socialism! Even China is outsourcing jobs to Laos because $1.00 per hour is WAY too much.

This is just the next evolution in Unions, micro-managing businesses. These aren’t the old day of the industrial revolution with unregulated wages and dangerous working conditions with no established safety standards. For goodness sake this is a janitoral exposure.

Since when has vacuumng and mopping morphed into a whole new area of hazardous ergonomics?

Please re-read your comments. Most appear to be stupid. Maybe if we brought back slavery some of you would then be happy. How many of you big talkers could clean 30 rooms a day, year and year. Sorry, now everyone can be a high paid insurance executive. In all these comments, not one suggested that maybe the union has a valid point.

Back in the ’30’s when FDR set up the Union is was warranted and necessary, but with all the regs re: hiring, discrimination, etc etc etc…all the Union does now is “feed” the “Fat Cats” at the top and “squat” for the worker. Yes, janitorial work is wearing, fitted sheets & long mop handles suggested earlier is a good idea but need to banish or really have a tight control on the Unions and their demands –

Really two issues here. Obviously union activity, in recent history, has done more harm than good. The bigger issue is how to handle an aging employee who’s only skills are changing bed linens, scrubbing showers, mopping, etc. It’s insensitive and wrong as the idiot “Hooray for…” suggests that the person’s complaints are due to weight gain. It’s probably just age. At some point a great, hard working maid that doesn’t complain, shows up for work every day gets old. And some people are not capable of management or changing roles. That’s why they were hired as a maid to begin with.

you would think that this lady is the same as the day she left high school. after 19 yrs, our bodies have aged. during the past 19 years has she done any physical fitness or eaten properly? probabaly not! our bodies get old and we can’t do the same thing we used to do.

many of you are right, it’s because of union demands that companies can no longer afford many benefits that the workers were getting. then, again, how many jobs were forced to have union workers? when in fact, it would discriminating to hire or force someone to join a union just to get a job. unions were making big money because they were getting a cut of the money from the job and the person paycheck. you have the right to form a union, but i don’t have abide by any union rules to keep you on the job. either you do the job right or not at all. everyone is an equal. maybe this lady of 19 yrs of housekeeping either needs to become a supervisor of a new wave of housekeepers or retire or even, find a much easier job. what is interesting as the article pointed out – they sent this out just prior to restarting contracts for the union. if i were these hotels, i not resign a contract and hire folks who are needing a job and can do it well.

Getting rid of unions would eviscerate workers comp, wage, non-discrimination, and work-week legislation? This is about as moronic a position as one could hold. Simply foolish.

Thanks for your post. Your spelling and grammar display to the world the kind of mentality that refuses to do the hard work involved with actually learning a useful and valuable skill, which the market rewards with high compensation. If you learn a marketable skill, you don’t need a union. You simply negotiatie on your own with numerous companies to find the best fit for the best wage. However, considering you canot even spell, it is understandable you would need thugs to negotiate a wage. Here’s an idea – start the process of self-improvement, rather than sit around on your lazy rear, waiting for some thug to extract an overpayment for your services.

If your employer isn’t voluntarily willing to pay you more, and you feel your skills are more highly valued elsewhere, move on!!!!!!

60% of all government workers are now represented by union. The sheer insanity of government workers needing a mouthpiece to talk to the government is so flippin insane I want to scream!!!!reeuwill
