    Fatally Flawed.
Where to begin to point out the many substantial flaws in this study? For openers Texas as well as most of the “least peaceful” states have substantially higher rates of “small arms”, see gun ownership, than northeastern states. Far from making the southern and western states less peaceful, it actually has the opposite effect of declinations in violent crime rates. This factor also helps explain the lower number of police officers per capita. When a population is safer and suffering less violent crime there is less need for large numbers of law enforcement personel. The increases in incarceration rates are directly attributable to a greater commitment to incarceration as an effective deterent to crime. A far more valid study would not skew the numbers against states for factors (gun ownership, law enforcement focus) that can be explained by cultural differences and would realie instead on more emperical data such as violent crime rates per capita.

Peaceful, serene, civilized and cultured Canada…..

Let’s send them the estimated 12-20 million illegal immigrants (who really knows what the number is?) we have to contend with here in the good ole’ USA and see what happens to their “peace index”.

A “peace institute”? This is a joke, right?

Not really, Clayton, the level of violence is directly proportional to the number of “stay at home” democrats who, instead of working at an honest living, prefer to steal from innocent people to make money as well as voting themselves a government check. This is now and has been going on through three and four generations (maybe you noticed during Katrina). Burglaries, robberies and assaults cause the honest population to arm themselves as police arrive too late to be of much help. Your theory reminds me of a guy who thinks he can play football because he watched the Super Bowl- a typical naive Liberal stance that disregards reality. If you don’t believe me and still cling to your bankrupt theory how come Wyoming is rated so good?
