I think patients are going to be shocked at how much access occurs from outside of this country. The medical records profession appears to be heading overseas in a hurry.

Absolutely you should be able to find out who has accessed your records, and those that do should keep on record a signed permission to view your medical records.

Large corporate lobbiest should not be able to influence legislation regarding our privacy. I think every american should have a certain level of privacy and most definately your health records, driving record, credit rating, and any other electronic data should be private.

      Somewhat off base on this:

Insurance carriers should have access to people’s driving records – after all, they should know whether or not the person they are insuring is a suitable candidate for insurance, and then charge appropriately.

As for credit ratings, there are correlations between that and losses; again, insurance companies and banks have a right to know what kind of risk you are.

The only one I really agree with you on is Health records. They ought to be kept private with the exception of treating physicians and health insurers.

Not sure what you’re getting at with other electronic data.

Typically the only people that ever want this information to truly be private are the people with something to hide.

You had me until your last line.

“Why keep your blinds shut at night unless you have something to hide?”

Privacy is vitally important to help protect against identity theft, plus, why does Coperation X need to know what I bought on Amazon? I don’t need them to market to me. If I want your product, I will seek it out, not the other way around.

Sarah, the unfortunate thing about all this is that every American is in a database and there is a great potential for identity theft, especially if they can access the Social, credit card accounts etc. Health records are the most private of all info and this government is determined to access anything and everything so they will be able to make the decisions on what healthcare is received. I do like the Pools that will provide coverage to the chronically sick who are turned down by the private market, but I am opposed to every American’s private health records to be accessed by government. Nothing good will happen from that.

The way this will work out is that the Federal Government will gain access to medical records. Ever since the privacy laws were inacted, we have less privacy than ever. Big Brother will know everything about everybody and the rationing can begin as soon as Obamacare is implemented.
