As someone who represents Kemper, we find that they are generally pretty competitive, more on home than on Auto, but with companion, they write a fair share. They generally beat the captives in most cases.

    Tom,

Your opinion (not clear if you actually have one) would carry more weight if you learned to spell a word as simple as cavalry.

As long as it’s the Kemper Cavalry, and not the real reasons why the Kemper company (from whome Unitrin bought the personal lines unit about a decade ago) went under, that’s remembered, then the name change is a good thing.

As I remember, it was the commercial side of Kemper that was in trouble. Unitrin only bought the personal lines.

Having spent the requisite minimum amount of time working at Smith’s Debacle, I thing Tom in Iowa is correct – and I do remember internal jokes about the Kemper Calvary.

You had to say a prayer each morning that a) the sign would still be there over the door and b) your paychuckle would be honored at the bank.

I spent over 10 years there, but jumped ship for a lifeboat in 1996 when the handwriting was clearly on the wall. On my desk right now is now one of hundreds of Kemper coffee cups the Chicago branch (largest in the company at that time) had printed for their producers. Above the silhouette of three fellows on horseback, in bold blue letters: “CALL THE CALVARY”.

It is a cherished collectors item. Can I get an amen?

We have had Kemper as a market since 2002. They have always been known in our state as Kemper. We have had no problem with the name, except in the early days when the competition tried to equate Unitrin Kemper with the commercial lines counterpart that went under, as a way of trying to scare off prospects.

The Package Plus has been a consistent good seller for us, and the carrier has been consistent in their underwriting and pricing. I’m glad they will finally help bolster my sales efforts with a little top-of-mind advertising to get their name out there, which is more than I can say about the majority of IA carriers who’s names no one has ever heard of but IAs and those who read trade journals.

I’ve had Kemper Insurance in Albuquerque originally owned by Congressman Manuel Lujan. He was a wonderful man and had great employees. Then Kemper/Unitrin took over and I still had great luck. Then a few months ago I got a call saying the Insurance company would now be call HUB. Right off the bat I was assigned an agent here in Albuquerque but when I called her with my problem she referred me to some one in Santa Fe. I MEAN I GOT THE NASTIEST LETTER FROM HUB THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN ANYONE SEND OUT. now you’re looking at about 40 yrs. of business with this company. FIRST SENTENCE SAID YOUR INSURANCE WILL BE CANCELLED ON 5/3/15. THEN IT SAID I HAD NOT MADE MY APRIL PAYMENT. I MAKE MY PAYMNETS ON LINE FROM THE BANK DIRECTLY SO I CALLED THE BANK. MY CHECK CUT ON 4/2/15 BUT THEY SHOWED THEY DID DEPOSIT IT UNTIL 4/9 AND I GET A CANCELLATION NOTICE RIGHT OF THE BAT! COULDN’T THEY HAVE BEEN A LITTLE NICER AND SENT ME A REMIDER OR CALL ME???? I’VE DONE THIS KIND OF WORK ALL MY LIFE AND IF I HAD EVER TREATED A 40 YR. CUSTOMER LIKE THAT I WOULD BE OUT THE DOOR. ALSO THE CHANGED THE RATES AND NEVER NOTIFIED ME SO I WAS PAYING WHAT WAS IN THE COMPPUTER. THE DIFFERENCE IN PAYMENTS SINCE THEY CHANGED IT WAS $28.00 AND I ALSO SENT MY MAY PAYMENT WITH IT. THE GIRL IN SANTA FE WAS VERY NICE. ACCORDING TO THE WAY I UNDERSAND, WHERE THEY RECEIVE THE MONEY IS FAR AWAY FROM WHERE THEY POST THE PAYMENTS. (PROBABLY 2 BLOCKS) IS THAT MY FAULT. I HAVE NOT GOTTEN AN APPOLOGY FROM THE COMPANY OTHER THAN THE LITTLE GIRL IN SANTA FE. I’M JUST WONDERING WHOSE RUNNING THIS BUSSINESS NOW AND IF HE KNOWS THIS IS GOING ON OR IF HE DOESN’T GIVE A S – – T!

Shall we connect the dots? So when unitrin changed to kemper a affiliate of liberty mutual? which handles a lot of of claims for UPS? Are we still suppose to reduce workers comp claims. Has anyone be entered into the million dollar club yet?

    Something isn’t right here.
    please enlighten me

You should never work for them , They are a sweat shop that doesn’t pay and the worst benefit plan i have ever seen. They treat their employees poorly and then can not figure out why people don’t stay.
