Sweeney Retires; McKay Named CEO of U.S. Aviation Underwriters

Michael Sweeney plans to retire as CEO of United States Aviation Underwriters (USAU) at the end of the year, parent company General Re Corp. in Stamford, Conn. said.

Sweeney will continue as chairman until April 30, 2012. David McKay will become president and CEO of USAU effective January 1, 2012.

McKay joined USAU in 1978 and held various positions over the years. He was named P=president and chief operating officer in 2006, and serves on the USAU board. In addition, McKay is active in a number of organizations that promote aviation and aviation safety. He is the current president of The Wings Club in New York City and co-chairs the Safety Committee of the AOPA Foundation’s Air Safety Institute.

General Re Corp., a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., is a holding company for global reinsurance and related operations.

USAU manages the United States Aircraft Insurance Group (USAIG), a U.S.-based insurance pool.
