I get service station attendants, taxi drivers, security guards and hotel managers. How did ‘barber’ make it on that list? I’ve had a bad haircut before, but i only maimed the barber. Have some self control people.

Actually, I am surprised Convenience Stores were not on the list. In our neck of the woods, they are robbed the most and often the clerk is either pistol whipped or even shot when the store is robbed. Most of them now have surveillance cameras which will identify the robbers, so perhaps that has slowed them down some.

And barber shops are often located in inner cities and sometimes are “hangouts.” See http://www.amazon.com/Street-Corner-Society-Structure-Italian/dp/0226895459

The book Street Corner Society talks a bit about that, I believe.

Friend in Croatia managed a gas station. One night after locking the door a man appeared holding a shotgun. Fast thinking as my friend is first thing he did was call his wife and tell her he was going to be late for dinner. He knew who to fear.
