Does anyone else find their HO product irresistible because of this: “Some of the features include the ability for homeowners to purchase protection for 100 percent of replacement cost” Wow.
They have been putting this line out for years. When you ask for access to the AARP Program, it’s only the MegaAgencies that can have access to the program, which gives you even lower commissions than the cheap 8% commission already in place.
We have the AARP program for auto (they don’t write homeowners in Florida).
It’s a good solid product for the agent that can sell benefit rather than price. It is almost never is the cheapest rate but it does have some benefits that should be presented to insureds.
We have been a Hartford agent for 40 years. Not long after the announcement came out that we could offer the AARP plan (which is just a discount)we were told there was “training” first. After more delay, the truth came out- it is only for agents with a certain volume level. Meanwhile, I keep losing Hartford customers to….Hartford.
there is training and they pull credit on every producer and CSR. I’m not sure how much of a volume they expect because, although we’re a good sized agency, we don’t put a lot with Hartford because their premiums aren’t very competitive – even with the AARP discount.
There are some features of the AARP program that I don’t believe are offered on a standard Hartford auto policy. Including guaranteed renewal. That’s important. When the old folks start bumping into things, they get dropped pretty quick by other carriers.

I wonder if they have a product that offers 50% of replacement cost of the home since that’s what everyone seems to want these days.
Because of the AARP/Hartford relationship I closed out my Hartford accounts.

I’m a very small agency and they appointed us 18 months ago.
yeah…ummm…no thanks.

I have no confidence in anything related to AARP.
I would never sell/purchase anything with AARP label on it. They are left-winged, anti-gun liberals. Obama can have ’em.

indicates a great deal to think about when looking at Hartford Insurance and/or the AARP.
