What are you people nuts! What have you been reading. The smoke and mirrors of Obamacare was originally 980Billion, predicated upon doubling up on a number of incremental portions, holding the physical inception until 2014 etc. etc. CBO today !!! Today – came out with a new revised estimate that the total will run in the area of 1.720 billion – that’s with a B and that’s predicated upon faulty reasoning.
    Be well all literally Pete

Hopefully the Supreme Court will toss the whole law when they hear the case. I’d like to see tort reform as a starting point to health care costs. I just can’t agree that the government has a right to tell me I have to buy something.

Peter, i would imagine that the 1.720 Billion is a typo. It should probably ready Trillion. There is no way the behemoth went from 980B down to 1.720B.

You gotta love Reuters. President Obama’s national health care law will cost $1.76 trillion over a decade, according to a new projection released today by the Congressional Budget Office, rather than the $940 billion forecast when it was signed into law. Yet, instead of framing this as a broken promise, Reuters wants us to be happy that that CBO revised its numbers down from the previous estimate.

It’s as if Reuters is telling me that I should be happy that a pickpocket maxed out all of the credit cards in my wallet because he left the $20 in cash. Absurd.

A closer look might reveal the cost savings are related to the decrease in life span under the Obamacara plan…if we all die sooner, less time to spend on govt healthcare lists…wahoo.

“Costs initially skyrocket under my plan, however, as sooner as longevity decreases, the costs begin to settle at lower numbers, by 2025 we might be saving 10 billion over what we spent on the living in 2020″…

You got to be kidding IJ – Here is another report on the same topic.

yesterday, the CBO released the lastest cost projections of ObamaCare showing that it’s now over $1.76 trillion, nearly DOUBLE the original estimate. Various news outlets are reporting that the law spends less and covers less people, but Philip Klein has broken down the guts of the report and explains what’s really going on (emphasis mine):

The big picture takeaway is that due mostly to weaker economic projections, the CBO now projects that more people will be obtaining insurance through MEDICAID than it estimated a year ago at a greater cost to the government, but fewer people will be getting insurance through their employers or the health care law’s new subsidized insurance exchanges. Overall spending will be HIGHER than estimated a year ago, but increased revenue from PENALTIES AND TAXES will more than offset this. Also interesting: CBO now expects two million fewer people to be covered as a result of the health care law than previously projected.

It’s worth keeping in mind that what the CBO did today was update its forecasts for the cost of expanding insurance coverage under the health care law. That represents, by far, the bulk of the spending in the legislation, but it doesn’t constitute a full rescoring of the law or a revised deficit estimate. That would have to include estimates for all the taxes, Medicare cuts and other spending in the law. Also, the $1.76 trillion cited above is for the years 2013 through 2022, but if we want to compare changes to last year’s estimates, we have to use the comparable years of 2012 through 2021. (Estimates for 2022 only became available today.)

The CBO now projects that from 2012 through 2021 the federal government will spend $168 billion more on Medicaid than it expected last year, $97 billion less on subsidies for people to purchase insurance on government-run exchanges and $20 billion less on tax credits to small employers. That works out to a $51 billion increase in the gross cost of expanding coverage from what the CBO estimated a year ago. However, the CBO also expects the federal government to collect more revenue from PENALTIES on INDIVIDUALS and EMPLOYERS, as well as other taxes. These revenue increases will more than offset the spending increases, according to the CBO, so it now expects the cost of Obamacare during those years to be $48 billion lower.

IJ – Go get your facts before issuing blatant ideological slanted journalism.

Sarah, I loved your dissertation. You have your facts in line with reality. Some of these posts have a little trouble with the difference between a billion and a trillion. The numbers are a little much for their brains. I know this is going to make TOPOV mad, but I will repeat it anyway. This bill will establish Death Panels of bureaucrats telling doctors they cannot treat the elderly. The expected cost savings from letting older Americans die instead of treat them is what they are counting on to reduce costs. I don’t believe the numbers from the CBO or HHS or the Labor Department saying unemployment is going down. It is all one huge lie and the liberals swallow it hook, line and sinker.

We are disappointed with a president who got into office who had no experience for the presidency, who got elected as a senator who held that position for only a short time. I don’t remember “No Experience Needed” on the job application for president but somehow it did get overlooked. Acorn (who no longer exists) and the media put Obama in office and all others who wanted “to make history” by voting for the first ½ Black president. Well, you sure did make history. Obama has increased the national debit more in is almost four years then Bush did in 8. And what is this nonsense of Michelle running in 2016? Have you lost leave of your senses? Has anyone noticed that everytime the CBO scores a bill, it is always far from what it ends up being. This organization is supposed to be non partisan but apparently they are not very good with numbers. This bill is going to cost twice as much as it was scored. A trillion here or a trillion there and pretty soon you are talking about serious money. What is affordable under the Affordable Care Act? Please explain someone so I can get my mind around the cost of this bogus 2,700 page monstrocity that Congressmen and Senators didn’t bother to read before voting on it and Nancy said they had to pass so we could see what was in it.

Who are those 50%, well, here’s an idea. A recent poll that had touted Obama as having made great gains with female voters in the last few weeks was just exposed as having a serious flaw. The number of people identifying themselves as Democrats far outweighed the number of Republicans in the poll, heavily skewing the results. Yet this poll was given wide media coverage as saying that Obama had broad female voter support. Little attention was given to the news that the data was flawed and that the next poll showed he had lost some support. The polls are only what pollsters want them to be, and what the media wants you to think. They can be skewed in question and sample to get to exactly what the organization conducting the poll wants. Be very wary of any poll results.

Hey TxLady, I agree with you on polls which are mostly sampling the audience they want to. I think you would get an entirely different result if the polls were done on mid America versus the liberal N/E or the Left coast. In Texas, his approval rating is somewhere between 10-15% of the true believers. I would trust Rasmussen or Wall Street Journal poll or Fox News poll before I would Gallup or one of the left wing polls. Rasmussen says he is at 41% and falling, down nearly 10 points in a month. Gee, I wonder how that happened with all the good news coming out of this administration on energy and the economy.

Scary stuff. It is so sad to see all these brainwashed people think this guy actually has their best interests at heart. Make no mistake – this guy and his ilk are only concerned with one thing: their own power and wealth. They don’t give a rat’s rear about the working class or any one else. Just look at the Mario Batali situation — the guy is a full on crazy Democrat and Obama supporter and he is stealing tips from his employees. The contraception issue is just another ruse to get more freebies. They aren’t even smart enough to know they can get it for free at Planned parenthood. The agenda is the Death Panels in Obamacare and not treating seniors so they will die earlier. That is the plan to reduce Social Security and Medicare costs. Those of you that have elderly loved ones should really give some thought to them during the next election. If they are on medications now, or need any type of life saving surgery, they will be left to die under ObamaCare. Read the actual bill. A panel of people (not all in the medical field) will decided who does and does not qualify to have certain procedures. This isn’t healthcare, it’s communism. Does your mother or father need a translplant of any kind? Better start saving your money for the black market. Under Obama’s death plan, the elderly will be left to die. It doesn’t stop with the elderly though. What about children with cancer? How about your wife or husband who was just hit by a drunk driver? Do you really want a “panel” of people deciding the fate of your loved ones?

The people of this country will vote Obama back in 2012. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

UCT, the way to make a Progressive really mad is to remind them there are Death Panels in the bill. They will argue fiercely that it is not in it, but these are the same people that have not read the bill, much like the Congressmen & Senators who voted in the blind to ram it down our throats. They are amazed that the folks protested it and still hate it. Even with all its flaws, the CBO rescored it and it will be twice as expensive as first estimated. The so called Affordable Care Act is the most expensive legislation ever passed and is sure to bankrupt the country if allowed to stand.

I really am confussed as the polls say approximately 50% of the people support this guy. I HAVE YET TO MEET ANYWHERE NEAR 50%.

EVERYONE I KNOW HATES THIS GUY, AND ARE ACTIVELY AGAINST HIM.

WE JUST NEED A NEW POLITICAL PARTY TO ELECT FROM!

Republicans are bad and Democrat Oh my God, much worse!

Don’t trust the polls that say this guy has a 50% approval rating. It is a scam just like the other information put out there that the economy is recovering nicely, unemployment dropping and nothing can be done about gas prices. Hey, we can make gasoline out of algae now, didn’t you know that? I have several black friends who actually worked for a living, retired and they will not be voting to re-elect this guy. Anyone with half a brain can see what is going on and where the country is headed under Progressive Socialism. The true believers and OWS crowd are a minority in this country and there will be a Tsunami in November.

How about we simplify it and just have a Conservative Party. A lot of people have Conservative Values and the current political parties are miserable excuses of Progressivism Lite or Progressivism Heavy. We could nominate Marco Rubio and he would kick butt.

The American Party, “We dont care about your religion or whether you are pro choice or pro anything”. We are the party of freedom from government! both financialy and socially. “Wait a minute, I am pretty close to a libertarian. I think that is American.

Sarah, In the true spirit of compromise, how about the American Conservative Party who stands up for the Constitution, represents the folks instead of special interests, is dedicated to defeating all the Progressive Radicals infesting Congress and cutting out at least 50% of the Federal Government bureaucracy which annually wastes at least a trillion dollars of our money. We certainly do not need Energy, Interior, Commerce, Education, Labor and the first agency to go should be EPA which is the biggest job killer ever created.

Since this article did not match what many others are reporting, I decided to go to the source and viola…ObamaCare will cost $1,762 billion over a decade, rather than the $940 billion forecast when it was signed into law. Here is the source: http://cbo.gov/sites/default/files/cbofiles/attachments/03-13-Coverage%20Estimates.pdf Funny how you can extract one number out of forecast to highlight a reduction in costs when total projections are now double! The $48 billion refers ONLY to the Insurance coverage provision (see Table 1). Even after reflecting the increase in penalties and new taxes the net cost is project at $1,252 (Table 2). Shame on Reuters for extrapolating to the “Cost of Obama Healthcare Law” in its title–leaving out that the $48B is JUST on the insurance provision.

Elena, you did a good job on your post except for the numbers. Actually, it is going to cost $1.762 Trillion over a decade, not billion. Trillion is hard to grasp since it is a thousand billion. This bill will cost 1,762 billion. Pretty amazing, but Progressives say a trillion here, a trillion there, who cares if it bankrupts the country.

Besides Anon and Michele, It is refreshing to see that the voters are starting to understand that the media including this outlet, are out to brainwash you and get you to avoid using your common sense. How can voters think that you can spend/borrow your way to prosperity or tax your way to utopia. Funny how all liberals are not really part of the producing public, usually academia elites who never have made it in the real world of capitalism or media outlets hell bent and getting off on making whats right, wrong! or whats wrong, right!. Catholic church, patriotism, traditional family values, etc. I could go on and on.

Despite the media’s attempt to brainwash us! These post’s present me with an uplifting expectation of the next election.

ROMNEY 2012! or ABO. (Anybody But Obama)

Unfortunately Sarah, there seems to be a lot of people out there who have been brainwashed by the complicit media who keep reporting what the government tells them, even if it is bogus information. Reporters who dig for the truth are in very short supply. These people are true believers and are now like a state controlled media prevalent in Socialist countries. I even get frustrated with Fox these days since they seem to let these Progressives rant on their network more than giving the Conservative viewpoint. Everytime I see Wasserman-Shultz or Alan Colmbs being interviewed on Fox, I promptly turn to another station. I hope there is enough of us with a brain to offset the iphone crowd who know nothing about what is going on in the world.

Agent, disenting views are always good for dialog just not overwelming displays of ignorance to reality like you get on MSNBC, CBS, ABC, NBC or CNN. Their inability to decern between what is logical and what is just just a blatten attempt to sway your view of reality is sickening and insulting to me. This article is a great example of what I am talking about. Lets take a closer look. Its a new law that will cost the tax payers 1.7 TRILLION dollars (1,700 billion) and now all of the sudden, a measily 48 billion less that what was reported a year ago is a big deal. It is most definately due to some very creative accounting by the CBO and because it is government, it must be correct. When has the government ever met a budget or deadline? Not in my lifetime. It really is insulting to the readers in this case. As well as the viewers of the major networks when they so blattenly slant their coverage.

Sarah, We have been scammed for the past 40 years by politicians riding the Progressive bandwagon. This country has devolved from a Constitutional Republic to a form of Crony Capitalist/Socialist Democracy. These politicians expect we will keep re-electing them no matter how much they spend, how much bad legislation comes down the pike. Guys like TOPOV, who has strangely disappeared from this blog think the government is doing a wonderful job. I guess he didn’t have a defense for this bill doubling in cost. The Information Ministry has done nothing but lie to the American People and we have to get them out of there in November.

In the end it will cost us absolutely nothing because [1] the USSC is going to derail it; or failing that [2] it will be repealed by Executive Order by the GOP President on his first day in office; and failing that [3] it will just not be funded.

For 2 & 3 to happen we have to take out Obama in November from the grass roots upward. Dems are DOA this year.

While I am not sure why Insurance Journal published this it has become my mission to watch Erza Klein and counter his manipulation of data. He took out the last three years of the CBO just so he could win what apparently was a personal debate between him and Carroll of the Washington Examiner. Interestingly enough I saw another Erza Klein article trying to say that Ryans proposal to privatizing Medicare is the same as Obamacare. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-03-21/ryan-plan-could-pave-way-to-single-payer-health-care-ezra-klein.html?goback=%2Egde_3954121_member_102737884 I responded with the chart from this article http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304636404577291221193908272.html and so far not published. Also posted a reply to the lastest comment and still not published. You guys have to read the posts from these people…you will either laugh or get PO’d as I did and reply.
