In the early part of the 20th century some clergymen believed that the human body and its soul would split apart if the human traveled at a mile a minute. That’s 60mph. The German Autobahns still have sections with no speed limits. Those sections have lower accident and fatality rates than the US interstate system. In a recent study voluteers drove on closed off sections of divided highways with the speedometers covered. The idea was to see at what speeds normal drivers felt comfortable. 85mph to 102mph was deemed comfortable.

We fail to train our drivers in the USA (we simply offer courses to get a license) and we are poor at instilling any discipline in our drivers.

We have preached forever that SPEED KILLS. On interstate highways with little or no traffic this is nonsense.
