If you have nice electronics in your house it is worth investing in a quality non-MOV surge protector. They are more expensive than the throw away kinds but can take repeated strong surges. MOV surges (99% of what you’ll find marked up 10,000% in stores since the crucial part costs a few cents) are only good for one surge and then they are blown, and you generally don’t have a way of knowing whether or not the MOV protection in a surge protector is still viable.
